Answer: China and India

In China, red is associated with loyalty, honor, success, fortune, fertility, happiness and passion. Brides wear red wedding dresses and wedding gifts are wrapped in red paper. 2. Who wrote the poem 'My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose'?

Answer: Robert Burns

The great Scottish bard Robbie Burns actually published this as a song in 1794, but it is often printed as a poem. It has been peformed as a song in modern times by various artists including Pat Boone, The Fureys and Camera Obscura. In Burn's version 'love' is spelled 'luve.'
3. Who wrote the book 'The Red Tent'?

Answer: Anita Diamant

The book is narrated by Dinah, daughter of Jacob and sister of Joseph (he of the coat of many colours). The red tent is the tent that the women of Jacob's tribe must live in while menstruating or giving birth. Anita Shreve and Anita Desai are authors but Anita Blake is a character from Laurell K. Hamilton's Vampire Hunter series of novels.
4. If someone described your actions as being like 'a red rag to a bull', what would you be doing?

Answer: Making someone angry

Matadors enrage the bull in a bullfighting ring by waving a red cape at it. So an action that enrages a person is said to be like 'a red rag to a bull.'
5. Which of the following traits are stereotypically, and incorrectly, associated with redheads?

Answer: Hot tempered, freckled and passionate

Redheads are stereotypically depicted as having fiery tempers, passionate outbursts and freckly pale skin. While most red heads do have very fair skin and greater amounts of freckling and an increased risk of skin cancer, there is no evidence to suggest that they are any more hot tempered or passionate than the rest of the population.
6. The Red Sea is a saltwater inlet of which body of water?

Answer: Indian Ocean

The Red Sea is a salt water inlet of the Indian Ocean between Africa and Asia and was formed by Arabia splitting apart from Africa. The surrounding countries include Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
7. The painting titled 'Dessert: Harmony in Red', and also known as 'The Red Room' was produced by which French painter?

Answer: Henri Matisse

Matisse painted this in 1908 and some consider it his masterpiece. It was commissioned as 'Harmony in Blue', but Matisse didn't like it and painted over it in red.
8. When Erik the Red was banished from Iceland in around 982AD, where did he and his followers sail off to in their longboats and establish a colony?

Answer: Greenland

Erik the Red brought approximately 500 settlers with him to Greenland. Greenland isn't any greener than Iceland and this is perhaps one of the very first examples of misleading advertising! Erik's son, Leif the Lucky, was the first Viking to explore Vinland in North America where modern day Newfoundland is.
9. We all know rubies are red, but what other gemstone is also coloured red?

Answer: All of these

All these gemstones are coloured red. The rubellite is from the tourmaline family of gemstones which come in many different colours. Spinels have often been mistaken for rubies, the most famous spinel being the 'Black Prince's Ruby' in the Imperial State Crown of England in the British Crown Jewels. Garnets are most often red, but can come in other colours too such as green and yellow.
10. Which New Zealand band released the song 'I See Red' in 1978?

Answer: Split Enz

Split Enz were one of New Zealand's most successful bands and achieved chart success in New Zealand, Australia and Canada during the 1970s and 1980s. One of the members of Split Enz was Neil Finn who went on to form the very successful band Crowded House.
