Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. George Burns said, "I'm getting to an age when I can only enjoy Alphabetti Spaghetti if I'm wearing my reading glasses".

Answer: False

Frank Skinner (Christopher Graham Collins) is an English comedian and chat show host who was born 28th January 1957 in Oldbury, in the West Midlands. This comical quote comes from his book, 'Frank Skinner on the Road'. He was associated with the song 'Three Lions' (The Official Song of The England Football Team) better known as (It's Coming Home).

He sang this with David Baddiel and The Lightning Seeds, reaching No.1 in the British singles chart in June 1996.
2. Norma was the name of Mrs Bates in the movie 'Psycho' (1960).

Answer: True

Anthony Perkins played the part of Norman Bates, in this classic 1960 black and white movie, based on a novel by Robert Bloch. Janet Leigh embezzled money from her firm and made a getaway to the Bates Motel. Alas this is her last port of call as Alfred Hitchcock terrified the audience with suspense, and Bernard Herrmann's creepy movie score unleashed all of your emotions.

As Alfred Hitchcock passed away on 29th April, 1980, I'm not sure who will compensate me for my laundry bill.
3. British illustrator, Lydia Leith, produced a Royal Wedding sick bag with the words 'Throne Up' printed on it. This was to be used by a member of the public, who found the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, too much to bear.

Answer: True

I don't believe anything was malicious about this product. Graphic designer, Lydia Leith, charged £3 for each bag and it was a way of poking fun about the way the press delight in anything that will sell more newspapers. It was a clever concept for people who were sick of hearing about the Royal Wedding.
4. 'Jennifer' was the name of the theme tune to the television programme 'Top Gear'.

Answer: False

The theme music was actually called 'Jessica' by the Allman Brothers. This lively instrumental was written by Dickey Betts, the guitarist for the Allman Brothers. It appeared on their 1973 album called 'Brothers and Sisters'. 'Top Gear' keeps the motorist well informed by road-testing new car models.

Although the programme is associated with Jeremy Clarkson, its first presenters were Angela Rippon and Barrie Gill in 1978.
5. Elton John has used the pseudonyms of PS Burton, Kenneth Miles and H Lewis Allways.

Answer: False

All these pseudonyms were rejected by author Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell). He allegedly chose the name of Orwell, after the River Orwell in Suffolk, where his parents lived. George himself was born in Motihari, Bengal, India in 1903. He is associated with the novels of 'Animal Farm' (1945) and '1984' (1949). Sadly, he died in 1950 from tuberculosis.
6. Valerie Hobson played the part of Estella in 'Great Expectations' (1946). She was married to the Secretary of State for War, John Profumo, who had an infamous affair with call girl, Christine Keeler.

Answer: True

Valerie Hobson also starred in 'Bride of Frankenstein' (1935) with Boris Karloff. During the well publicised 'Profumo Affair' (1963), she loyally stood by her man.
7. Anthony Quinn said, "Many a husband kisses with his eyes wide open. He wants to make sure his wife is not around to catch him".

Answer: True

Anthony Quinn was born 21st April 1915 in Chihuahua, Mexico. He won an Oscar in the movie 'Viva Zapata' (1952) in which he played the brother of Marlon Brando, who played the title role. He won a second Oscar in 'Lust for Life' (1956) by portraying painter Paul Gauguin, who was the friend of Van Gogh, played by Kirk Douglas. Quinn was associated with playing the peasant Zorba, in 'Zorba the Greek' (1964). Throughout his colourful lifestyle he married three times and fathered thirteen children.
8. Sissy Spacek played the character of Carrie Brown in the horror movie 'Carrie' (1976).

Answer: False

Sissy Spacek portrayed the character of Carrie White. Brian De Palma directed the movie in which Carrie utilised her telekinetic powers to get even with those who played a cruel practical joke on her at the high-school prom. Piper Laurie performed a convincing part as her fanatical religious mother while John Travolta played the character of Billy Nolan, in one of his early movies.
9. Ron Hickman invented the legendary 'Black and Decker' Workmate in the 1960s.

Answer: True

Ron (a director of Lotus Engineering) designed the Lotus Elan car. While he was making wardrobes for a bungalow, he accidently sawed through the leg of an expensive Swedish chair, which was used as a support. Pun alert. He saw the error of his ways and invented the Black and Decker Workmate.
10. British comic, Peter Kay, said, "You've turned into your dad the day you put aside a thin piece of wood specifically to stir paint with".

Answer: True

Peter Kay is an English presenter and comedian who was born 2nd July 1973 in Bolton. He played the character of Brian Potter in his own series of 'Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights'. He re-released the song 'Is This the Way to Amarillo' with Tony Christie for Comic Relief in March, 2005.
