Queen Liliuokalani last ruled in 1893. She tried to get rid of the American influence in government. The Americans were outraged, organized and took over the government. The first president was Sanford B. Dole, an elderly judge.

King George I reigned from 1714-1727. He was a German prince who succeeded to the British throne at the age of 54. He could neither speak or write English.
