Left-handedness is also known as sinistrality or mancinism, and those of us who favor the use of our left hands are called many names, including southpaws, especially in a sporting context. The Latin word for left was sinister, and the French is gauche.

There seems to be a common theme here. I always try to sit on the end of the table so that using my left hand doesn't make me bump into my neighbor's right hand.

Tatting is one form of lace making, which uses a shuttle or a needle to produce patterns of knots and loops that are often used for decorating collars, or for doilies. Tatting could also be used to produce lacy place mats for our luncheon.

The table was heavily laden, which means it was loaded with goodies. Lustrous means shining, limpid is a word meaning clear, more commonly applied to eyes than to food, and there was nothing little about the banquet we approached!

Fennel, also called finocchio, has a strong flavor of anise, similar to the flavor of licorice. Fennel is traditionally one of the three herbs used in the preparation of absinthe, an alcoholic drink that was originally developed as a tonic.

There are many ways of preparing potato pancakes, most using shredded or grated potato, with flour and egg added to hold them together as they are shallow-fried. In my family, we also used mashed potato, dredged in flour and fried in butter rather than oil. Fortunately, my sister knew that some of us like them thin and crispy, and some like them to have plenty of creamy potato inside the crisp outer layers, so everyone enjoyed them.

Lieben is a German verb for love, lieder are romantic songs with German poems set to music, and lollipops are sweet hard candy on a stick that is held as the candy is eaten.

The ladybug is also called a ladybird, or ladybird beetle. When we saw the ladybug on the flowers, we all joined in the childhood chant that starts "Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home" while my father collected it up to carry outside back to freedom.

Answer: Lethargic

Lethargic would be more appropriate as a description of those of us dozing in our chairs, not those running around. Any of the other three words might describe the youngsters, who were out there laughing in the long grass.
