1. University of Nevada Reno

Answer: Wolfpack

The University of Nevada Reno's sports teams are known as the Wolfpack. Their main rivalry is with the University of Nevada Las Vegas. The school is also noted for its MacKay School of Mines, which has been renowned for its mining engineering graduates since 1888.
2. Virginia City

Answer: Comstock Lode

Virginia City achieved fame through the incredible silver produced from the world famous Comstock Lode. The Comstock Lode is found unde Mount Davidson.
3. Nevada state song

Answer: Homes Means Nevada

"Home Means Nevada" was written by Bertha Rafetto. It was adopted as the official state song in 1933.
4. University of Nevada Las Vegas

Answer: Rebels

The University of Nevada Las Vegas are the Rebels, and for basketball they use the Running Rebels. There is a huge state rivalry between them and the University of Nevada Reno. In football, the annual game is played for possession of the Fremont Cannon. Winners get to paint the cannon in their school colors.
5. Part owner of Champion Mine in Midas, 1931

Answer: Jack Dempsey

Jack Dempsey came to Nevada in the early 1930s. He set up a training camp at the gold town of Midas. As thanks, the mining company renamed their mine the Champion Mine. He worked full shifts down in the mine as part of his training for a title defense.
6. Owned a saloon in Tonopah, 1901

Answer: Wyatt Earp

After Wyatt's adventure to Alaska was done, he and his wife came to the silver boom town of Tonopah and built the Northern Saloon on Main Street. During this time, his brother Virgil, still partially crippled from the OK Corral shootout, was serving as a deputy sheriff in nearby Goldfield.

After Virgil died in 1905, Wyatt sold his saloon and moved to California where he became a consultant for western movies.
7. Married Jean Peters in Tonopah, 1957

Answer: Howard Hughes

Howard Hughes, during this period, had heavily invested in numerous mining ventures in the old silver boom town of Tonopah. He quietly married former Ohio beauty queen Jean Peters in a small motel, the L & L, located just below the mines he owned above town. The marriage lasted for 13 years.
8. Started writing for Territorial Enterprise, 1862

Answer: Mark Twain

Mark Twain started his Nevada adventure in Aurora, an old ghost town located on the Nevada California border. He wrote a couple articles in the local paper which caught the eye of the publisher of the very prestigious Virginia City Territorial Enterprise.

He was hired and had a regular column in the paper from 1862 to 1864. It was during this period he began using the pen name Mark Twain. His first important book "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" came out in 1865 and the Nevada part of his life ended soon after.
9. State motto

Answer: Battle Born

The original state motto was "All For Our Country" but was later changed to "Battle Born" which appears on the state flag. It was a nod to the fact that Nevada became a state during the Civil War in 1864.
10. Early mail transportation system that crossed Nevada

Answer: Pony Express

The Pony Express ran from April 1860 until October 1861. The route ran the entire width of Nevada, more than 400 miles. There were more than 40 relay stations in Nevada also with replacement riders and fresh horses.
