Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which former US vice-president had problems spelling the word 'potato'? His first name is Dan. What was his last name?

Answer: Quayle

On June 15, 1992 Dan Quayle became the laughing-stock of the world, when he prompted a schoolboy in Trenton (NJ) to spell potato as 'potatoe'. Other examples of the spelling problems of this great politician: 'May our nation continue to be a beakon of hope to the world' on his 1989 Christmas card, and 'I had a great time this weekend but the golf was lousey' in a note to a friend....
2. Farrokh Bulsara was the real name of a Zanzibar born singer (1946), who came to England in his youth. He was the lead-singer of a very, very famous group. In 1991 he sadly died of AIDS. What is the name of his group, that still continues to perform without him?

Answer: Queen

If you knew Farrokh Bulsara was Freddie Mercury, you probably had no problem answering this Question. And of course you know he was Queen in more than one way.
3. You have twins, you have triplets, and when you get four children at the same time, you have...

Answer: quadruplets

You even have quintuplets, sextuplets, septulets, octuplets or worse...
4. Which leather-clad, glam-rock singer of the seventies became world-famous with hits like 'Can the can'. The song 'Suzy Q' could have been written about her, but it wasn't. Who was Suzy (family name only)?

Answer: Quatro

If you haven't seen her in those days, you sure missed something. 'Suzy Q', the song, was written in 1957 by Dale Hawkins and refers to the daughter of the owner of his record company (Jewel Records). The song was of course immortalized by CCR, but even they didn't have this Suzy in mind.
Another bit of trivia: Suzy Quatro is an aunt of actress Sherilyn Fenn (whom you probably saw in 'Twin Peaks')
5. Another one about the seventies: which album (1973) by The Who refers to a special sound system? It's also a movie (1979) about mods and rockers.

Answer: Quadrophenia

The movie was the British answer to "Rebel Without A Cause". Personally, I was never interested in this recreation of the sixties. Hey, we all have our own tastes...
6. What role did Desmond Llewellyn play in 18 James Bond-movies? He made his first appearance in 'From Russia with love' and his last in 'The world is not enough'. He died in 1999.

Answer: Q

This must be the easiest answer ever. Q! As if he knew he was going to die in a car crash in 1999, he took his leave in 'The world is not enough', but only after introducing John Cleese as his successor R.
7. You know this one as well. What movie (1951) was named after a novel by Sienkiewicz? It's a story about the apostle Peter. When he flees from Rome, Christ meets him outside the city walls and asks: 'Where are you going?' If you can translate that into Latin, you knew the title of the novel and the movie.

Answer: Quo vadis

If you haven't seen it, your parents must have. Peter Ustinov is unforgettable as the bad emperor.
8. Which Spanish don is a knight who fights windmills, tries to win the heart of his beloved Dulcinea and has an assistant named Sancho Panza? He is the main character in a novel by Spanish author Miguel Cervantes.

Answer: Quijote

You either knew his name or you remembered just now. How could you ever forget about this man?
9. Call your son or daughter and ask them: what is the favourite sport of Harry Potter? I bet they know. Do you?

Answer: quidditch

Check out all the HP-quizzes at Funtrivia, if you didn't know this answer. It's basic these days...
10. This one is so difficult that I want to give you a multiple choice. What's the name of an extinct African animal, something between a donkey and a zebra?

Answer: quagga

It is a quagga. A quelea is a kind of African bird, quorn is a vegetarians substitute for meat, and you probably knew what a quail is.
11. This exotic bird, with a long tail and beautiful colours, is also the currency of Guatemala. Can you name it?

Answer: quetzal

I know, I know: this was a tough one. But I didn't tell you you couldn't look it up. It's a beautiful bird anyhow. And an important one in meso-American mythology as well.
12. Which character in Moby Dick has a name with two Q's? He is Ishmael's best friend.

Answer: Queequeg

Either you know these things or you don't. This tattooed character has made a huge impression on me, when I first saw the movie (the one with Gregory Peck as the Captain). I like him even more after reading the book.
13. Do you remember the name of the ugly creature in Victor Hugo's book 'The Hunchback of the Notre Dame'? Maybe your kids know, if they have seen the Disney version (well, yeah, a couple of years ago)...

Answer: Quasimodo

Oddly enough, the word 'Quasimodo' also refers to the Sunday after Easter. In Latin the word means 'likewise' or 'as'.
14. What's the name of a member of a religious movement within Christianity, that values brotherly love and fear of the Lord? William Penn was a member of that religious conviction.

Answer: quaker

You did know that Penn founded Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, didn't you?
15. Which novel by Charles Palliser has a title starting with a Q? It's all about the inheritance of a young boy, named John Huffam. In the novel you will meet characters named Miss Quaintance, Mister Quigg, Miss Quilliam and Mister Quintard. The title has two words, the first being 'The...'

Answer: The Quincunx

The word Quincunx refers to a group of five things (mostly trees), who, looked upon from above, stand in the form of an X. That pattern plays a very big role in the book. I quote from Quintilianus: Quid Quincunce speciosius, Qui, in QuamcumQue partem spectaveris, rectus est? (What is more beautiful than a quincunx? Whatever way you look at it, it's always straight.) OK, I Quit.
