Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Inspector Jacques Clouseau retains a long-suffering man-servant who, in addition to normal duties, attacks the inspector unexpectedly to keep Clouseau's defensive skills sharp. Who is this sidekick?

Answer: Cato Fong

Beginning with "Shot in the Dark" (1964), Cato attacks his employer at inopportune moments. The attacks are serious as are the defenses. The most amusing are those launched while the Inspector is in bed with a beautiful woman. Burt Kwouk played Cato Fong throughout the franchise.
2. On "Gilmore Girls" (WB, 2000-2007), who is Rory's childhood friend, a drummer in a rock band, an involuntary Seventh Day Adventist, and a sometime waitress in Luke's Diner?

Answer: Lane Kim

Duplicity is a life style for Lane Kim (played by Keiko Agena) as she strives to live a normal life (playing in the band Hep Alien, wearing cool clothes and make-up, dating) under the super-strict dominance of her mother Mrs. Kim (played by Emily Kuroda).

She is paired well with both Lauren Graham as Lorelai (a sort of alter-mother figure) and Alexis Bledel as Rory (the very conformist daughter of a non-conformist mother).
3. Who is the red Jamaican crab who cares for Ariel in all three of the Disney "The Little Mermaid" movies?

Answer: Sebastian

There is no parallel part to Sebastian's in the original Hans Christian Anderson story of "The Little Mermaid." The Rastafarian crab was the invention of songwriter Howard Ashman who wanted to write Jamaican music for the first film.
4. In John Knowles' coming-of-age novel "A Separate Peace" (1959), who is Gene Forester's roommate at the Devon School, best friend, competitor and sidekick?

Answer: Phinneas (Finny)

The roommates are opposites in many respects. Gene is academic; Finny is athletic. Gene is socially awkward; Finny is smooth on social situations. Gene is vaguely Southern; Finny is a Northeasterner. The boys have an off-and-on love-hate relationship. The author and Fred Segal collaborated on a screenplay which was produced in 1972 under the same title.
5. SpongeBob SquarePants has many aquatic friends in his Pacific Ocean community of Bikini Bottom. Which is his best friend, an echinoderm who is neither ambitious nor bright?

Answer: Patrick Starfish

Patrick Starfish lives under a rock and spends most of his time watching television. He is voiced by Bill Fagerbakke who played the huge but dim character Dauber on the television series "Coach." He specializes in what he calls "the art of doing nothing." His popularity with fans of the show is demonstrated by the significant roles he played in "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" (2004) and "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" (2015).
6. On the American television series, Doctor Quincy, Medical Examiner, was assisted in his investigations of suspicious deaths by his laboratory assistant. Who was this faithful co-investigator and friend?

Answer: Sam Fujiyama

Sam Fujiyama was played by Robert Ito, a Canadian ballet dancer who became an actor in the middle 1960s. Jack Klugman's role as a principled and combative pathologist pitted him against his boss (Dr. Robert Asten played by John S. Ragin), and a Los Angeles homicide detective (Lt. Frank Monahan played by Garry Walberg).

Ito worked as a voice actor in animation, and as an actor in both television and movies.
7. In the video games, who is Sonic the Hedgehog's best friend: a yellow-orange fox with two tails?

Answer: Tails

Sonic's sidekick's full name is Miles Prower (a pun on "miles per hour") but his nickname is Tails because he has two of them. He is a fox, eight years old, and a mechanical genius. He is also able to fly (in short bursts) by spinning his two tails.
8. In the John Stanley comic books starring Little Lulu, who was her male counterpart?

Answer: Tubby

Little Lulu (Lulu Moppet) was created in 1935 as a single-panel cartoon in the Saturday Evening Post. In the comic books which followed, Tubby (Thomas Tompkins) was her close friend and fellow adventurer. Tubby sometimes adopted the identity of "The Spider" to solve mysteries in which Lulu was entangled.

When the series was made into an HBO animated series in 1995, Tracey Ullman voiced Little Lulu.
9. A Dachshund pup tagged along with his "dear old dad" on which Hanna-Barbera cartoon shown on "The Quick Draw McGraw Show" on American television?

Answer: Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy

Augie Doggy was the enthusiastic pup, eager to please his father. Doggie Daddy was a devoted father, intent on bringing his son up correctly. Doggie Daddy was voiced by Doug Young in an impersonation of Jimmy Durante. When Augie would say something particularly profound, Doggie Daddy would break the fourth wall and say to the television audience "Dat's my boy who said dat!" The series ran from 1959 to 1962.
10. In the world created by English author A.A. Milne, who is the sidekick of Winnie the Pooh?

Answer: Piglet

Pooh's closest friend, out of all the characters in the Hundred Acre Wood, is Piglet. Winnie and his companions have appeared in print, on radio, in feature-length movies, on television, in animated shorts, on postage stamps, dolls and board games. Pooh's adventurousness pairs nicely with Piglet's timidity. They are the closest of friends.
