Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the birthdate of "Back to the Future" and "Caroline in the City" star Lea Thompson?

Answer: May 31, 1961

If she'd been born on any of the other dates, Lea would have been too old or too young to play a high school student in "All The Right Moves" (1982). She reprised her role as Lorraine in two sequels to "Back to The Future", bringing her teenage-playing days to an end at age 28.
2. Rosetta Stone Software is known for teaching people what?

Answer: languages

The brainchild of Allen Stoltzfus and his brother-in-law John Fairfield, Rosetta Stone came about as a result of Stoltzfus' frustration over trying to learn Russian. In 1992, technology began to catch up with their vision, and they formed Fairfield Language Technologies to created the software. Rosetta Stone still calls Virginia's Shenandoah Valley home, but it has branches worldwide, with executive offices in Washington, DC.
3. Which of these films featured Michael Caine?

Answer: Zulu

Although he had small parts in several films and television episodes before this 1964 film, Lt. Gonville Bromhead was the first major role in Michael Caine's career. He played a British Army officer in a remote fort invaded by Zulu warriors in a battle which would claim hundreds of lives.
4. Which of the four wines listed below is a white wine?

Answer: Johannesburg Riesling

Johannesburg Riesling is a sweeter variety of the Riesling white wine which originated in Germany. The drier versions are produced in Alsace, France (a border province significantly influenced by German culture), and of course in all the major wine regions of Germany. Riesling is not one of the more commonly produced wines in the United States, but some wineries do make it.
5. In a 1994 episode of "Seinfeld", Jerry and friends spotted George's father on a New York street meeting up with a mysterious man played by series co-creator Larry David. What unusual article of clothing did Larry wear in this role?

Answer: cape

The man turned out to be a lawyer whose advice Frank Costanza father sought when he and Estelle were considering a divorce. They decided to reconcile when Estelle received some advice over the phone from a woman named Donna Chang. Once Estelle met "The Chinese Woman" (episode title) in person, she could see clearly the woman was caucasian, and called off the reconciliation. Donna was played by American-born Angela Dohrmann.

Caped man Larry David went uncredited for all his brief Seinfeld appearances, and he otherwise kept a low profile behind the scenes. That would all change when he stepped in front of the camera on a regular basis in the HBO series, "Curb Your Enthusiasm".
6. What is the last name of the author of the books "We The Living", "Atlas Shrugged", and "The Fountainhead"?

Answer: Rand

Ayn Rand launched a philosophical movement known as Objectivism as a result of the concepts expressed in her writings. The Libertarian political party is said to have drawn many of its principles on her belief that the sole function of a proper government is protection of individual rights.

Her controversial views on many social issues made her as many enemies as she had admirers. But no one could deny the worldwide sales "The Fountainhead", whose hero Howard Roark would later be portrayed by Gary Cooper in a 1949 film directed by King Vidor.

The film featured one of the first major leading roles for acclaimed actress Patricia Neal, who began a long affair with Cooper on the set.
7. Which of these songs by Herb Alpert features vocals by Janet Jackson?

Answer: Diamonds

The song was the third track off Herb's 1987 album, "Keep Your Eye On Me". Much of the production on that album was by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, the men behind the success of Janet's multiplatinum 1986 album, "Control". The song reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and went all the way to #1 on the U.S. Dance chart.

At 52, well into his third decade as a recording artist, Herb was riding high.
8. Which of these is NOT the last name of a former U.S. president?

Answer: Nelson

It is surprising that quite a few of the names have already been used twice in the history of U.S. presidents. But indeed there have been two men named Harrison (9th president William Henry and 23rd Benjamin) and two men named Johnson (17th president Andrew and 36th Lyndon).

There has only been one Wilson (Woodrow, 28th), and no Nelsons. However, Gerald Ford's vice president from August 9, 1974 to January 20, 1977 was Nelson Rockefeller.
9. Which of these then future Oscar winners made her film debut in the 1996 movie, "2 Days in the Valley"?

Answer: Charlize Theron

Charlize appeared briefly in "Children of the Corn III", but the first role for which she received screen credit was a "femme fatale" named Helga Svelgen in this crime thriller directed by John Herzfeld, hoping for a comeback thirteen years after his 1983 feature debut, "Two of a Kind", bombed.

The part Charlize played was originally written with an older actress in mind, Dutch-born model Daphne Deckers. Deckers had other obligations at the time, so her loss became 21 year-old Charlize's gain. She was featured prominently on the posters for the film, and on the boxes when it was later released on home video.
10. Now look over the answers to the previous nine questions. A certain country should spring to mind. You may not have ever been there, but probably know enough about it to guess it from the answers above. What is this place?
