Question 1 of 10
1. Shaking dripping water off your head, you enter Primrose Cottage to see Miss Priscilla Wetherby perched on her sofa. Sitting next to her, looking disdainful, is her pet cat. Befouling the Aubusson rug is Mr Newsworthy, the boarder. You quickly jump to conclusions and suspect Miss Priscilla of killing Mr Newsworthy, but she has her alibi ready. "I wasn't here. I was out buying food for my Precious. She's very fussy, and only eats certain brands."

Which of these is not a brand of cat food?
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. You lament the fact that there is no sign of injury on your victim until Miss Priscilla volunteers that Mr Newsworthy had a heart complaint. Looking through his myriad of pill bottles, you realise that he had other issues as well. Which of these prescription tablets that you found are not normally prescribed for heart conditions? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. A sudden ruckus comes from the back of the house and two slobbering faces appear at the window. Precious hisses at the animals and ducks under the couch. You immediately think of the Baha Men. What sort of animals are Mr Newsworthy's "boys"? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Casting about for clues, you realise an old video is playing on the television.
"I always leave the television on for Precious when I go out," Miss Priss tells you. "She was watching Joy and Elsa. She's very smart you know, and it's her favourite movie." What video was the cat watching?
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. You see a maroon, gold and blue scarf draped over the back of an armchair, but dismiss it as the murder weapon as you seriously doubt that little Miss Priscilla would have the strength, or the height, to strangle the victim.
"Brisbane is playing Geelong in the AFL grand final tomorrow", Miss Priscilla tells you. "And I'm getting ready now." What sport is Miss Priscilla looking forward to?
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. The next thing that catches your eye is a children's book displayed on a side table. Inside the front cover is a signature. You look puzzled until Miss Priscilla explains. "My Great, Great Uncle on my mother's side, Charles Dodgson, wrote the book, and I inherited this copy." What is Charles Dodgson's pen name? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. A pile of plastic wrapped magazines on the entrance table is the next to be investigated. The covers all feature pictures of the only remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. "I'm very interested in Pharaohs and sphinxes", Miss Priss explains. Where is this global treasure that has spiked Miss Priscilla's interest? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Miss Priscilla begins to complain that all the fuss is upsetting her stomach and she needs a cup of Field Balm tea to calm her nerves. What type of tea does she want? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. In the kitchen you discover a cold, congealed, half-eaten plate of macaroni and cheese on the table. Brushing aside Miss Priscilla's complaints that Mr Newsworthy had been dining on what was supposed to be that night's dinner, you are puzzled at what you see on the plate. Precious jumps on the table, sniffs suspiciously at the food then backs away. Which of these is not a usual ingredient of Macaroni and cheese? Hint

Question 10 of 10

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
She's very fussy, and only eats certain brands." Which of these is not a brand of cat food?

Answer: Pal

Pal is a brand of tinned dog food made by the Pedigree Company, who also makes Whiskas. Dine and Fancy Feast are slightly more expensive, but their contents actually look somewhat like the picture on the label.

"What were you doing going out on a night like this just for cat food?" You ask Miss Priscilla, who looks like a slight puff of wind would knock her over.
"It wasn't raining when I left," she says. "I didn't mean to be away so long; it's just I met up with some of the church ladies and we got to chatting. Then we had to have a little sherry or two. Purely medicinal, you understand, because it was so cold."

Answer: Phenergan (Promethazine)

You know Phenergan is an antihistamine used for allergies. Obviously Mr Newsworthy is allergic to something, but what? Cats? Dogs? Little old ladies? The list is endless, so you move on looking for clues.
3. A sudden ruckus comes from the back of the house and two slobbering faces appear at the window. Precious hisses at the animals and ducks under the couch. Miss Priscilla tells you that they are Mr Newsworthy's "boys", and claims that Mr Newsworthy had not informed her that he had them when she offered him the spare bedroom. You immediately think of the Baha Men. What sort of animals are Mr Newsworthy's "boys"?

Answer: Dogs

The dogs are huge, slobbering, verbally diarrheal Saint Bernard dogs that leave large piles of grass killers around the cottage's prim garden. You wonder if this is another motive for Miss Priss to have killed Mr Newsworthy?
4. Casting about for clues, you realise an old video is playing on the television. "I always leave the television on for Precious when I go out," Miss Priss tells you. "She was watching Joy and Elsa. She's very smart you know, and it's her favourite movie." What video was the cat watching?

Answer: Born Free

A house cat watching a video about big wild cats? You wonder why Precious would want to go outside at all, especially since the dogs are still barking like someone cares. You give yourself a shake and a mental slap in the face. Cats do not watch television! You have never seen a cat watching television in your life, and fear that Miss Priss is somehow sucking into her delusions.

Answer: Australian Rules

The Brisbane Lions Australian Rules football club formed after the merger of the Fitzroy Lions and the Brisbane Bears in 1996. Geelong is known as the Cats.
You would never have picked little Miss Priss as a football fan. "It's the players," she says. "All those nice young men running around in their little shorts..."

Answer: Lewis Carroll

Ah, you remember the story about a young girl and her rather strange adventures with albino bunnies and beaming tabbies. You're beginning to feel like you've fallen down the rabbit hole yourself, and why, oh why, didn't you take the blue pill?

Answer: Egypt

"The postman very kindly brings my magazines to the door for me since they won't fit in the letterbox," Miss Priss tells you. "He must have come while I was out shopping." You cannot image why tiny Miss Priss would want to buy magazines like these. Surely, if she wanted to gaze at ancient relics, all she had to do was look in the mirror.
8. Miss Priscilla begins to complain that all the fuss is upsetting her stomach and she needs a cup of Field Balm tea to calm her nerves. What type of tea does she want?

Answer: Catnip

You remember your old Gran used to recommend catmint (or catnip) tea for everything from headaches to upset stomachs when you were younger, but you'd forgotten that until you smelt Miss Priss' tea brewing. Huh, and you thought she just had a hairy upper lip through genetics.

Answer: Shellfish

When you look closer at the plate, you feel like you're imitating the cat sniffing at the food when you notice something odd in the bowl. You smell a rat, and it's not Miss Priscilla's housekeeping.
10. Reviewing your notes, you realise that all the clues are right in front of you. You have figured out the case and look Miss Priscilla in the eye. "I know how Mr Newsworthy died. I know who killed him and how they did it." Who's the perpetrator?

Answer: Precious, with a prawn, in the kitchen

You inform Miss Priscilla that you think Precious is the perpetrator. Miss Priscilla grabs Precious off the floor and hugs her close. "My Precious would never do something like that," she cries. "I know she's smart and playful, but she wouldn't hurt a fly."

All well and good, except Mr Newsworthy is not a fly. Precious stares at you disconcertingly until you feel you're under investigation. She then jumps from Miss Priss' arms and pads over to her food bowl in the corner of the room. She delicately takes a single prawn in her mouth, leaps lightly onto the table and deposits the prawn into the half-eaten mac and cheese. She pushes it around until the prawn is hidden from sight, then sits and looks at you haughtily. At least she would, if it were not for the blob of cheese sauce on her nose.

"That cat may be smart," you say to Miss Priscilla. "But she's not that smart. If it were me, I would have killed the dogs."

Miss Priscilla looks pleased. "Oh! Would you? Thank you so much. They really are too much for me."
