Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Professional assassins, James Bond film "Dr No"

Answer: Three Blind Mice

These were the first characters to appear in a "James Bond" film. They appear in the opening credits of "Dr No" (1962) and are given that title as a result of the song "Three Blind Mice" that opens the soundtrack. The killers, portrayed by Eric Coverly, Charles Edghill and Henry Lopez, have been sent to the Queen's Club to dispose of British agent John Strangways.
2. All forces between two objects exist in equal magnitude and opposite direction

Answer: Newton's Third Law

Newton's third law explains why things float. The force of gravity pulling an object down is balanced by buoyancy - the upward force exerted by the water.

Newton's first law is about inertia - an object either remains at rest or continues to move at a constant velocity, unless acted upon by a force. Newton's second law is about force and its relationship to acceleration: the sum of the forces on an object is equal to the mass of that object multiplied by the acceleration of the object: F = ma.

Newton's three Laws of Motion underpin the foundation of classical mechanics. They describe "the relationship between a body and the forces acting upon it, and its motion in response to those forces". Newton published these three laws in 1687.
3. The Father, The Son & The Holy Spirit

Answer: Trinity

Christian doctrine indicates that God is "one" God but in Three Divine Persons - The Father, The Son (seen as Jesus Christ) and The Holy Spirit (sometimes referred to as The Holy Ghost). The three persons are treated as being distinct, but also being of the one substance, the one nature or the one essence.
4. Three Flavors of Neutrino: Muon, Tau and ____

Answer: Electron

A neutrino is an elementary particle that is electrically neutral ("Neutr" and very small "ino") The mass of the neutrino is much smaller than that of the other known elementary particles, at first it was thought to be mass-less but it does have a barely detectable mass.

The source of neutrinos is the sun. First postulated in 1930 and discovered in 1942. When measured there appeared to be only one third the postulated amount reaching earth. This was because there were three flavours of neutrinos and the detection method only detected one type.

The three types are electron neutrinos, muon neutrinos and tau neutrinos. Each particle can oscillate between the three types.
5. Third degree of the diatonic scale

Answer: Mediant

In music theory's major scale there are seven distinct notes. There is also an eighth, but it is a duplication of the first only and an octave higher. The mediant is the third note in line, sitting halfway between the tonic and the dominant. In solfege (do re mi fa so la...) it would be mi.
6. Three headed dog, Greek Mythology

Answer: Cerberus

Cerberus is the "Hound of Hades", who guards the gates of the Underworld. He was stationed there to prevent the dead from leaving. Cerberus was the offspring of the monsters Echidna (half woman half snake) and Typhon (a monster giant).
Cerberus was usually portrayed as having three heads but not always. At times he'd have a snake for a tail, as well as snakes protruding from various parts of his body.
7. Alexander Dumas

Answer: The Three Musketeers

This is a historic novel that is set between 1625 and 1628. It follows the adventures of a young man called d'Artagnan who has his heart set on being a Musketeer. He leaves home and heads to Paris where he meets and befriends three formidable Musketeers in Athos, Porthos and Aramis. All four then become involved in the convoluted happenings of court and state.
8. Gerard Butler movie, Battle of Thermopylae

Answer: 300

"300" is based on King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), leading 300 Spartans into battle against the Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) who has more than 300,000 soldiers in his army. The movie is narrated by the Spartan soldier Dilios (David Wenham) who is revealed as the sole Spartan survivor.
This 1998 film was classified as "Historical fantasy" and despite being panned by critics, made $US 450 million at the box office.
9. Refer to oneself in third person

Answer: Illeism

There can be a number of reasons to use this style in everyday speech, the most common reason being to show humility. It may also be a way of observing certain conventions or stations, for example "your servant awaits your orders sir". It can also be used as a literary device, usually as a twist where, for example, the narrator of the story turns out to be the main character.
10. George Harrison

Answer: 33 1/3

Released in 1976 this was George Harrison's seventh solo studio album. The album is notable for its first single "This Song" which was George's satirical take on the court decision that found him guilty of copyright infringement with his hit "My Sweet Lord".
