Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Colin Mochrie is not a regular on which of these North American TV shows?

Answer: Royal Canadian Air Farce

"Improv Heaven and Heck" is not actually the real name of the show (altered for the younger quizmasters). Colin, for those who don't know, is a Canadian, but has only been on guest appearances on RCAF.
2. How many bytes in a kilobyte?

Answer: 1024

It is the closest number to 1000 that is a power of two, and powers of two are the easiest things to work with in binary code. I think it is the only 'strange' scientific system.
3. When did McDonald's open its first restaurant in India?

Answer: 1996

The first Indian McDonald's opened without any of its signature burgers, due to the sacredness of cows there.
4. What would you normally call a cubic decimeter?

Answer: A litre

The good old metric system. A millilitre is equal to a cubic centimeter, and the same amount of water at sea level defines the gram. By the way, a decimeter is one-tenth of a meter, or 10 centimeters.
5. What do you call someone from Moose Jaw?

Answer: A Moose Javian

Germany has some odd names for people, too. A Hamburger hails from Hamburg, and the Frankfurters live in Frankfurt. Not surprisingly, the snacks are named after the German towns.
6. The insurance company Lloyds of London offered insurance against accidental death caused by a falling Sputnik. True or False?

Answer: True

7. Who ordered the building of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon?

Answer: Nebuchadnezzar

8. Which of these rocks classify as 'sand'?

Answer: A marble fragment, one millimeter in diameter

Sand is usually siliceous, according to the Oxford Canadian Dictionary, but can be any rock. According to Trivial Pursuit Genus IV, a rock or mineral simply needs to be between one sixteenth of a millimeter to 2 millimeter to classify as sand.
9. What McGill University chemistry professor invented green ink?

Answer: Thomas Hunt

Another famous professor of McGill University is Stephan Leacock, a humourist.
10. The prefix 'giga-' indicates what number?

Answer: 1,000,000,000

'Kilo-' is thousand, 'mega-' means million, 'giga-' is the next major prefix up. There are other prefixes, too. These decimal-system prefixes are used in measures such as hertz (sound frequencies and computer speed), bytes (which use the prefixes but use them to represent a power of two - see question 2), and meters, grams, and other measures in the metric system.
11. How much of the CFL's Grey Cup game was postponed in 1961 due to fog?

Answer: 9 min 29 sec

Those last few minutes were played the next day.
12. If you had chrematophobia, which of these occupations would you most likely not have?

Answer: Bank teller

Chrematophobia, obviously, is the fear of money. I don't know if anybody actually has it, but it still has a 'phobia' word.
13. What Canadian capital city is the only one to have a non-freezing winter, as of 1995?

Answer: Victoria

I know some people who live there, and I visit them often. It seems that EVERY Victorian winter is over 0 degrees Celsius.
14. 37.8 degrees Celsius is how warm in Fahrenheit?

Answer: 100

That's pretty hot. The Celsius scale, for those who don't know, is based on the freezing and boiling points of water at sea level. Water freezes at 0 Celsius, and boils at 100.
15. Lastly, which Canadian province boasts the largest non-Russian uranium mine?

Answer: Saskatchewan

I'm glad it is not in the US.
