Spencer Perceval, son of the 2nd Earl of Egmont, was shot by John Bellingham as he was entering the lobby of the House of Commons in 1812. Bellingham was later hanged for his crime.

Benjamin Britten (b.1913) began composing at the age of six. He was created a Life Peer in 1976 and died later that same year.

The Goodwin Sands (known as 'the cemetery') lie 6 miles off Deal rounding the North Foreland in the English Channel. Eleven miles long and six miles across these sandbanks have for centuries been the graveyard of many ships. Haisborough and Scroby are sandbanks off the coast of Norfolk and Dogger Bank is an immense sandbank (6,800 sq.mi.) in the North Sea between Great Britain and Denmark.
