13. Looking Glass Rock

Answer: True

True. Looking Glass Rock is a huge bulge of granite rising from the valley floor in "The Cradle of Forestry", near Asheville, North Carolina. The technical name for this geological marvel is a "Pluton". Plutons are masses of granite and quartz formed eons ago when lava bubbled up and broke through the surface of the ground, cooling in a large hump.

The native Cherokee of this area considered Looking Glass sacred. Other intriguing features of Looking Glass are Short Man's Sorrow and Bloody Crack, natural features that are a bane to rock climbers.
14. The Lost Sea

Answer: True

The Lost Sea is the name of a cave located off of Hwy. 68 near Sweetwater, Tennessee. This cave is another historic landmark, and is famous for the massive lake that fills its lowest chamber. Though the demensions of the surface of the lake have been measured, what lies beneath remains a mystery.

The full extent of the Lost Sea is still not known despite the efforts of teams of divers armed with modern exploration equipment. The visible portion of the lake is 800 ft. long by 220 ft. wide. Beneath the waters of the four-and-a-half acre lake divers have discovered an even larger series of rooms completely filled with water.

More than 13 acres of water have been mapped so far, yet still no end to the lake has been found. One diver ventured into the water-filled rooms with a sonar device.

He took soundings in all directions and found nothing but more water.

21. Oak Ridge

Answer: True

Located near Knoxville, Tennessee, Oak Ridge is the home of the National Atomic Sciences Laboratory. This town was built in the 1940's with one intention: to house the families of the men who were struggling to make the uranium for the first atomic bomb. Three plants were built here to acomplish this purpose; Y12, X10, and K25. Y12 inevidibly produced enough enriched uranium for both the Heroshima bomb,code-named "Little Boy", and for the second bomb, "Fat Man", as well. All three plants, plus the National Lab are still standing here today.

The American Museum of Science and Energy is located here as well. In it they have an actual demilitarized Air Force tactical nuclear warhead. You can even touch it. Pretty cool, huh?
22. Thunder Pass

Answer: False

This one is fiction.
23. Thunder Rock

Answer: True

Thunder Rock is the name given to a section of the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee. There is a campground there also.
24. Blue Hole

Answer: True

Blue Hole is the name given by locals to a large, deep swimming hole located along the Ocoee River in Tennessee. It gets its name from the color it turns when the TVA opens the dams along the river, raising the water table. Even in the summer the water here is frigid!
25. Whitepath

Answer: True

Whitepath is perhaps the most interesting place in Gilmer Co., Georgia. The story behind this place, as I understand it, is as follows. Chief Whitepath was a prominent leader in the Cherokee Nation and he and his band of Native Americans lived in the vecinity of modern day Whitepath.

When Federal troops came to relocate he and his people, via the Trail of Tears, to Oklahoma, Whitepath laid a curse on this area that wouldn't wait! Sure enough, years later a man bought this property and built a large hotel on it, in the early 1900's.

Not long after it was built strange things began happening. This all culminated when the hotel actually burned to the ground, and the man killed his wife and then himself. All that remains of the original hotel is the entrance gates, off of Boardtown Rd., in Gilmer Co. Perhaps there was more to Whitepath's parting words than people wanted to believe!
