Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. British Columbia draws many visitors to its natural attractions. Which common natural attraction includes Harrison, Radium, and Fairmont?

Answer: Hot Springs

Hot springs are often found together with geysers. These features cause jets of hot water from underground.
2. Stanley Park is a huge park that contains all of the following, except for one. Which one isn't in Stanley Park?

Answer: Roller Coasters

This Vancouver park had its official opening on September 27th, 1888. It was named after the late Lord Stanley, the governor general of Canada during this time. There is a par 3 golf course on the western side of the park.
3. A ferry able to hold 400 passengers links Vancouver and North Vancouver across Burrard Inlet, what is it called?

Answer: SeaBus

This great ferry service operates throughout the day, and offers a great view of the inlet, as well as Stanley Park and Lions Gate Bridge.
4. There is only one classical Chinese Garden in British Columbia, which offers tranquility, peace, and beauty. What is this attraction called?

Answer: Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden

Located at the centre of Vancouver, this breathtaking attraction is named after Dr Sun Yat-Sen, an important figure in China's development.
5. What is Vancouver's oldest district called?

Answer: Gastown

Gastown is now revitalized to be a prime tourist destination, with nightlife and shopping opportunities within its historic scenery. Gastown, the first downtown core of Vancouver, was named after a young, influential man, whom had the tendency to ramble on with long stories, thus his "gassy" personality.

The townspeople then called the town 'Gastown,' for the talkative person, but eventually the name stuck, and it is still called Gastown today.
6. What is the museum in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia, celebrating the feats of man, particularly Pacific Northwest aboriginal art, called?

Answer: Museum of Anthropology

With at least 530 thousand ancient artifacts, or those reflecting anthropology in some way, this museum is a definite must-see. The profound stories these Aboriginal artefacts convey are truly what makes this museum such a great tourist destination.
7. Victoria is known as Canada's 'City of -----'?

Answer: Gardens

This capital city is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Its attractions include the beautifully adorned Butchart Gardens, and the famous Fairmont Empress Hotel. Victoria can also be known as the City of Flowers.
8. Thunderbird Park specializes in displaying what?

Answer: Authentic Aboriginal Totem Poles

Most of the Totems are from the Pacific Northwest Tribes of Haida, Gitxsan, and Kwakawaka tribes. These totem poles are especially fascinating for the elaborate stories behind the wood. In fact, these totem poles were once used as a form of communication by some.

However, artists are now trying to imitate the aged art-form, without having any meaning behind the totems, only to make a profit. Nonetheless, Thunderbird Park specializes in showcasing the older, authentic totem poles, which truly are marvellous.
9. Chemainus has become an important tourist attraction, why?

Answer: It contains huge outdoor murals.

This town, located on Vancouver Island, was originally a logging town, but now focuses on the tourism industry with its 30+ murals. The town's name, Chemainus, is adapted from a legend of a Native Shaman, whose name literally means "broken chest."
10. Lastly, when one tours Vancouver, what would be the proper way to identify a person residing in this city?

Answer: Vancouverite

Vancouverites, oddly enough, are not located on Vancouver Island, but rather the nearby city. Vancouverites live in Canada's third largest city, and these people co-hosted the Winter Olympics with Whistler in 2010.
