Estonia is separated from its Northern neighbour by the Gulf of Finland. Other neighbours are Russia on the eastern side, Latvia in the south and Sweden in the west which lies across the Baltic Sea.

Answer: True

It is also the fourth largest of all lakes in Europe, the biggest being Lake Ladoga in Russia.
3. What is the biggest city in Estonia?

Answer: Tallinn

Tallinn, the historic capital of Estonia, which has had several names including Koluwan, Lindanise and Reval during its history, has a very well preserved Medieval Old Town. One of Tallinn's many churches, the Gothic Oleviste Church, was once (in 16th century) the tallest building in the world at 159 metres.

In 1219 the Danish King Waldemar II was trying to conquer Northern Estonia. It seemed that the Estonians were going to win, but, according to the legend, an ensign - a white cross on the red field - was then bestowed from the Heavens. When the Danes saw it, they took courage and won the battle.

The same flag - Dannebrog - is used up to this day as the flag of Denmark (it's the oldest national flag in the world).

Arvo Pärt was born in 1935 in Paide, which is a little Estonian town. He emigrated to Austria in 1980. One year later he moved to Berlin, Germany, where he still lives. At the age of 61, Pärt was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
