Midway island is located in the NW Hawaiian islands. It's Hawaiian name is Pihemanu. It is a National Wildlife Refuge administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The American victory in the Battle of Midway prevented the Japanese from taking Hawaii and eventually invading the West Coast of the US.
