Answer: Carlisle

Shippensburg was the county seat until 1751, when Carlisle, then known as LeTort's Spring, was chosen over Newville for the permanent site of the county seat. The Old Court House in Shippensburg is still standing on the corner of King and Queen Streets. In Carlisle, the original courthouse still stands across from the new courthouse on the corner of High and Hanover Streets.

Cumberland County sits directly across from Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania, on the Susquehanna River.

Answer: Greene

Silver Spring township borders Mechanicsburg on the northwest, Middlesex township is near the center of the county, and Southampton township is on the western edge of the county. Greene township can be found in neighboring Franklin County.
