Five Ashes is the smaller of two villages that make up the parish of Mayfield and Five Ashes, in the High Weald of East Sussex, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The nearest town is Tunbridge Wells.
Fivehead is a village in Somerset, on the river of the same name. The nearest town is Taunton.
2. * Bridges, *kingham

Answer: Three

Three Bridges, once a small hamlet, expanded with the coming of the railways in 1841. The name does not refer to railway bridges though, but to old bridges over local streams, tributaries of the River Mole. It is part of the town of Crawley, West Sussex.
Threekingham (pronounced threckingam) is a village in Lincolnshire (pronounced linc'nsher). The nearest town is Grantham. The parish church is St Peter ad Vincula (St Peter in Chains).
3. *banks, * Elms

Answer: Nine

Ninebanks is a small village in south west Northumberland. It lies in the North Pennines AONB. It is noted for the early sixteenth century Ninebanks Tower with four stories, the lowest below the level of the road. The nearest town is Alston.
Nine Elms is a district of south west London, in the Borough of Wandsworth, and lies between Battersea and Vauxhall. It contains the famous Battersea power station.
4. * Mile Bottom, *hills, *penny Handley

Answer: Six

Six Mile Bottom is a hamlet within the parish of Little Wilbraham, near Cambridge. Its name comes from its being six miles from the start of Newmarket Racecourse and because it lies in a valley bottom.
The Six Hills, a scheduled Ancient Monument, is a collection of Roman barrows situated alongside the old Great North Road on Six Hills Common in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
Sixhills (all one word) is a village in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, near the market (obviously) town of Market Rasen.
Sixpenny Handley is a village in north east Dorset, the nearest town being Blandford Forum. The name comes from two medieval hundreds "Sexpena" and "Hanlega". After the Great Fire of Handley in 1892 the village was almost totally destroyed, but so much clothing was sent to the relief of the villagers that it was said one could identify a Handley man because he wore two or more waistcoats!
5. *cote

Answer: One

Onecote is a village near Leek, in the Staffordshire Peak District. Onecote has a church called St Luke's, has one pub, and is a good walking centre.
6. *bury Wells, *dring, *terden

Answer: Ten

Tenbury Wells (just called Tenbury by the locals) is an ancient market town in the Malvern Hills District of Worcestershire. The famous Tenbury Bridge crosses the river Teme and connects Worcestershire to Shropshire.
Tendring is a large local government district in northeast Essex. It contains the towns of Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, Brightlingsea and Harwich, and Clacton-on-Sea where the council is based.
Tenterden is a town in the Ashford District of Kent, and calls itself "The Jewel of the Weald". It stands on the edge of the remnant Weald forest, overlooking the valley of the River Rother. The Cinque Ports Confederation consists of five ports, two ancient towns, and seven minor towns (limbs), one of which is Tenterden.
7. * Marks, * Throws, *stones

Answer: Four

Four Marks is a village in East Hampshire, near Alton. It lies on the Pilgrim's Way that runs between Winchester and Canterbury Cathedrals.

8. * Sisters, *hampton, *oaks

Answer: Seven

The Seven Sisters is a series of chalk cliffs on the English Channel, the culmination of the South Downs. Erosion results in the loss of 30-40 cm a year, leaving an unusual beach made of chalk. The nearest town is Eastbourne.
Seven Sisters is an area of north London, part of the London Borough of Haringey. The name is derived from seven elms which were planted in a circle with a walnut tree at their centre.
Sevenhampton: there are two villages with this name, one in Wiltshire near Swindon, and the other in Gloucestershire near Cheltenham.
Sevenoaks is a local government district in the west of the county of Kent. Adjoining the town is Knole House, a magnificent example of a traditional English Stately Home.
9. *borough, *bridge, *by, *well

Answer: Brace

A bit of a cheat here, as I couldn't find an English place beginning "Two". Braceborough is a tiny hamlet in Lincolnshire.
Bracebridge is a suburb of the city of Lincoln.
Braceby is yet another Lincolnshire village, near the market town of Grantham.
Bracewell and Brogden, two villages form a civil parish in Lancashire, although historically they were both in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Eight Ash Green is a small village in Essex, very near the border with Suffolk. It is just outside, and could well be considered a suburb of, Colchester, said to be Britain's "oldest recorded" town.
