Portsmouth shares a border with all major cities in the Hampton Roads region whether on land or over water except for Virginia Beach which only borders Norfolk and Chesapeake.

Answer: Renaissance Hotel and Conference Center

Situated on the Elizabeth River in Olde Towne, the Renaissance Hotel played a big role in the revitalization of downtown Portsmouth as well as the rest of the city. The downtown area is not fully revitalized yet but it is well on it's way out of the trenches.

The Downtown Tunnel is the main connector between Portsmouth and Norfolk. It was completed in May of 1952 as the Elizabeth River Tunnel. The Midtown Tunnel is the other major connection on US HWY 58 which was completed 10 years later.

Portsmouth became an independent city March 1st of 1858. Before then it had been the seat of Norfolk County since January of 1801. Norfolk County is now the City of Chesapeake due to a merger between the county and city of South Norfolk to avoid annexations by Norfolk and Portsmouth.
