Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On which Indian Ocean island would you find the beautiful seaside village of Flic en Flac?

Answer: Mauritius

Flic en Flac is situated on the Western side of Mauritius and consists of approximately eight kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches. A highly sought after tourist destination, it also offers lots of authentic food which is sold from stalls along the sidewalks. Cheap and cheerful, and if you are lucky enough to visit in the summer months there are carnivals and sega dancing all along the beachfront.
2. Which of these two countries have a seaside town called Margate?

Answer: South Africa and England

Both England and South Africa have a seaside resort on the south coast.
It came as quite a surprise to me when I moved to S.A to find myself in Margate!

Margate in England is in the county of Kent. It has the lowest amount of rain fall in England and has been a popular resort since the 1800s, especially for Londoners.

Margate in South Africa is in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

Both are beautiful places but Margate in S.A wins hands down for the almost all year around sunshine.
3. Close to which South African town would you find a place called "Hole in the Wall"?

Answer: Coffee Bay

Coffee Bay is a tiny resort situated on the eastern side of South Africa. The popular attraction is the "Hole in the Wall" which consists of a cliff jutting into the sea, with a hole through the cliff which has been formed by the crashing of the waves.

It is called "izi Khaleni" by the local Xhosa tribe which literally translates as the "place of thunder".
4. Which is the largest island in the Balearic Islands archipelago in Spain?

Answer: Majorca

Majorca, also known as Mallorca, with its white sandy beaches and beautiful blue sea, is my idea of a wonderful holiday destination.

Not only known for the above, there are other wonderful sites to visit such as the Dragon Caves, S'Albufera d'Alcúdia which is the largest wetland in the Balearic Islands, and many more attractions to see.
5. Where in the world would you find the stunning Boracay Island?

Answer: Philippines

While the Philippines have many beautiful islands, Boracay Island has won many tourism awards over the years. Although it has many beaches, the two most popular are situated on opposite sides of the island and are called White Beach and Bulabog Beach.

Why am I freezing in South Africa when I could be on one of these beaches? LOL.
6. Which is one of the longest beaches in the state of Victoria, Australia?

Answer: The Ninety Mile Beach

A wonderful location for all you sun and nature lovers, it is remote and teeming with wildlife.
Ninety Mile Beach is on the southeast coast of the state of Victoria and a little misnamed as it is actually ninety-four miles (151 kilometres) long.
Behind the beach are several lakes with make up the Lakes National Park.

But be warned, during the breeding season great white sharks gather in the shallows.
7. Which of the following, situated in South Africa, was ranked #2 in the world by CNN Travel in 2012 for its surfing beach?

Answer: Jeffreys Bay - Eastern Cape

Also affectionately known as "J-Bay", Jeffreys Bay is the most popular destination in South Africa for the surfing cult and hosts events which attracts surfers from all over the world.

Ranked number 1 was Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii, United States.
8. On the Mediterranean coast of northern Spain, at the northern end of the Costa Brava, is this charming seaside town named after which flower?

Answer: Roses

So much of the Costa Brava has been spoiled by high rise cheap tourist accommodation and over commercialisation. It's a favourite spot for those Brits who don't like to eat "That foreign muck" and prefer a good hot dog or fish and chips!

However, Roses (in the municipality of Girona) has kept its charm, beauty and the traditional Catalan cuisine. The atmosphere is relaxed and very Spanish. Roses is also close to many other small coves and beaches and the French border is only an hour away. Okay, it is possible to buy fish and chips or a burger there if you must, but with so many small traditional Catalan cafes, why bother?
9. Which of the following is the smallest state of India, renowned for its beaches?

Answer: Goa

Apart from Goa's golden beaches which attract millions of tourists every year, there are many other attractions such as the flora and fauna, places of worship and many other historical places.

It has a very short winter between the months of December and February with temperatures ranging from 21 - 28 degrees Celsius.

Hmmm ... I'm wondering about making a move there.
10. The town of Cannon Beach, part of Ecola State Park, is in which U.S state?

Answer: Oregon

Oregon state is in the Pacific Northwest of the United States and has a wonderful, if a little windy, coastline.
Cannon Beach offers miles of secluded beach and coves, breath taking views backed by Sitka spruce forest and coastal mountains.

I hear the water can be a little chilly so not for the faint of heart!
