Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A popular attraction in the Kansas City area is the home of what former U.S. president?

Answer: Harry Truman

The home of Harry S. Truman (his middle initial stands for nothing) is in Independence, just outside of Kansas City.
2. What is the name of the heavily traveled trail that runs along the Missouri River almost all the way across the state?

Answer: Katy

The Katy Trail is named for the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad, better known as KATY. It is a popular trail for biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing, running 225 miles between St. Charles and Clinton. It is the longest Rails-to-Trails project in America.

The trail itself isn't all; one can explore Missouri's heritage in towns along the trail such as Hartsburg, Rocheport, Marthasville, and many others.
3. The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame can be found in what city?

Answer: Springfield

The Hall of Fame is full of interactive displays of famous athletes such as Ozzie Smith, Bob Gibson, and Stan Musial. You'll find memorabilia from many sports, from baseball and football, to even auto racing and fishing.
4. What small river lends its name to a very popular series of caves in east central Missouri?

Answer: Meramec

Meramec Caverns can be found right off Interstate 44 in Stanton, Missouri. It is advertised along the highway as "Greatest Show Under the Earth", "Tours Every 30 Minutes", and "Jesse James Hideout".
5. The highest point in Missouri is 1,772 feet above sea level. Where is this point located?

Answer: Taum Sauk Mountain

In Taum Sauk Mountain State Park, there's a short path leading to the highest point in the state. You can view the surrounding area either from an overlook just off a gravel road, or from a tall lookout tower. There's also a trail leading to Mina Sauk Falls, the state's tallest waterfall.
6. Complete the name of this attraction: _____ Rocks State Park.

Answer: Elephant

The park gets its name because of lots of large granite boulders lined up side-to-side like elephants in a circus. It provides some nice scenery regardless of whether you stay on the trail around the rocks or climb on top of the rocks.
7. Which of these theme parks cannot be found in Missouri?

Answer: Sea World

You can find Sea World in Orlando, San Diego, San Antonio, and Cleveland, but nowhere in Missouri. Worlds/Oceans of Fun is in Kansas City, Six Flags is just outside of St. Louis, and Silver Dollar City is in Branson, a popular place not just for Missouri, but for all the United States.
8. At which Missouri state park can you play in cool, clear water that flows through unique rock formations?

Answer: Johnson's Shut-Ins

Millions of years ago, volcanic rock formed and parts of it eroded and formed a canyon-like setting where the water is "shut in" channels between the rocks. It's a very popular place to just splash around in the cool waters of the Black River. The rocks can be slippery even when dry, so tennis shoes or river shoes are best to wear in the shut-ins. Because of the inherent danger around the rocks, no more than 100 carloads of people are allowed into the park at any time. So, if you arrive after the 100th car, be ready to wait until someone else leaves!
9. In Springfield, Bass Pro Shops is a popular attraction. Besides a huge store for clothes and outdoor equipment, it also contains aquariums, a waterfall, a fish & wildlife museum, and a restaurant. This place is so popular that a second one was opened up in Missouri in 2002. In what town was it opened?

Answer: St. Charles

While Bass Pro Shops in Springfield attracts people from everywhere, now St. Louisans don't have to drive four hours to get to one! There's now one right across the Missouri River in St. Charles.
10. What company has its headquarters in Kansas City, where visitors can see its products being made right in front of them?

Answer: Hallmark

The Hallmark Visitor Center is located in the Crown Center complex of downtown Kansas City, which also contains specialty shops, restaurants, and theaters. In the visitor center, you can see technicians demonstrate the die-making and printing processes involved in making the greeting cards that we give to people for so many different occasions.
11. What town south of St. Louis is a French heritage town consisting of lots of antique shops and bed & breakfasts?

Answer: Ste. Genevieve

The French were some of Missouri's earliest settlers. Their style is shown in the architecture of Ste. Genevieve as well as in the Illinois towns right across the river, which can be accessed by the Ste.Genevieve-Modoc Ferry across the Mississippi.
12. One of the most popular restaurants in Missouri is Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston. Its slogan is "Home of the Throwed _____ ".

Answer: rolls

A billboard on southbound Interstate 55 just past Ste. Genevieve, about 85 miles north of Sikeston, advertises that Lambert's has thrown over 47 million rolls. They've never changed that number on the billboard; it's been the same for years! Rolls aren't all they serve; they'll pass around small servings of fried potatoes and onions, black-eyed peas, fried okra, and many other vegetables before your entree even arrives at your table!
13. In what museum in Missouri will you find the world's largest pair of underwear?

Answer: St. Louis City Museum

It's a big pair of white underwear with the Everlast logo on it. It's so big that it has to be dry-cleaned and not machine-washed.
14. What type of attractions can be found in and around Hermann, Missouri?

Answer: wineries

Some of the famous wineries in Missouri Wine Country include Augusta, Sugar Creek, and the biggest one, Stone Hill, in Hermann.
15. The Mark Twain Boyhood Home can be found in what Missouri town?

Answer: Hannibal

You can learn all about Mark Twain, and get some nice views of the Mississippi River Valley in Hannibal. I got most information in this quiz from the book "St. Louis Quick Escapes" by Julie Gustafson and Linda F. Jarrett. So, is this quiz enough to make you want to check out Missouri's many tourist attractions?
