Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hi, there! I'm ElusiveDream. I live in the world's sixth largest country whose shores are bordered by both the Pacific and Indian oceans. At the centre sits a large red rock. My country is also home to lots of unique animals, including the platypus and the echidna. Where do I live?

Answer: Australia

I live in Australia! The large red rock that I referred to is called Uluru. Because of its spiritual significance and also in the interest of public safety, the Aboriginal tribe who owns that particular area has asked visitors to respect its laws and culture by not climbing the rock (though some people still do).

As for the wildlife, Australia is home to kangaroos, koalas, emus and wombats. We also have two very unique mammals, the platypus and the echidna. Why are they so special? Because you won't find them living in the wild in any other country, and rather than giving birth to their young alive like most mammals do, these ones lay eggs!
2. I'm William/HairyBear. Some of my fellow citizens are Puerto Ricans, Aleuts and Choctaws. What country am I from?

Answer: United States

Puerto Rico is a Spanish-speaking US protectorate and an island in the Caribbean. It is entirely self-governing except for the court system. An appeal from a Puerto Rican federal court goes to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and possibly to the US Supreme Court. Puerto Ricans are considered US citizens and can travel anywhere in the US without a visa or passport. Choctaws belong to one of the many American Indian tribes in the US.

While Amerindian territories are considered sovereign nations within the United States, individual Amerindians are also given full rights (and responsibilities!) as citizens of the US. Aleuts are another Aboriginal group, this time from Alaska.
3. I'm Rumpo and I love the folk music of my country. I play the balalaika and domra. Where was I born?

Answer: Russia

The balalaika is considered the "heart of Russian music" by many. It has three strings and a triangular shaped body. The domra is a mandolin like instrument with three or four strings, and takes the place of the violin in folk orchestras. Composer Maurice Jarre used them in the music for the film "Doctor Zhivago".
4. Hi, I'm rosifer. I come from the country of the Brummie, the Geordie, the Scouser, and the Mancunian. Where do I come from?

Answer: England

Those are all terms for the native inhabitants of their cities. Brummies are from Birmingham, Geordies from Newcastle, Scousers from Liverpool, and Mancunians from Manchester, all in England.
5. I'm xxFruitcakexx. My country's national flower is the daffodil; we have a dragon on our flag; and Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey were born here. Where am I from?

Answer: Wales

Wales is one of the four countries that makes up the United Kingdom, the others being England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. It is mainly mountainous in the north and central parts. Its capital city is Cardiff, which is in the south. It has its own assembly, which has powers over such things as the national health, education and agriculture.
6. Hello, I'm Kvrad and I have lived for the past 26 years in a tiny country that gets talked about in the news very often. In spite of being small enough to fit into California 17 times, we have mountains, beaches, deserts, forests, lakes, a holy city, and the lowest place on earth. Where do I live?

Answer: Israel

Israel is one of the smallest countries in the Middle East, but contains Mediterranean beaches, Mt. Hermon where we ski in the winter, the Negev Desert where camels can be found, and the Dead Sea, the lowest point in the world. Jerusalem is holy to three major religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
7. Hi, I'm Nero Serigala. I live in the US now, but I am from an island nation which includes half of the second largest island in the world and also includes one of the most populous islands in the world. Where am I from?

Answer: Indonesia

Indonesia has over 17,000 islands, which include half of New Guinea (the second largest island in the world), and Java (the most populous island in the world, with over 100 million people in 2012). Other famous islands are the tourist destination of Bali, as well as Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Borneo (which Indonesia shares with Malaysia and Brunei).
8. Hi there - I am Luckycharm60 and I come from a country which is part of the United Kingdom. My country is famous for tartan, haggis, bagpipes and the Loch Ness monster. Where am I from?

Answer: Scotland

Yes, I come from Bonnie Scotland, but don't believe the stereotype in my question. Scotland is a modern, bustling country. Like Wales, Scotland also has its own parliament.
9. Hi, I'm kaci51. I live in a European country that's home to a large number of mountain ranges. We have three different climate zones and grow a variety of fruits and vegetables. My country has the largest palm grove in Europe. Which country am I from?

Answer: Spain

I live in Spain! We grow strawberries, grenadines, artichokes, olives, broccoli and oranges.

Spain's climate zones are the Maritime Zone, the African Zone and the Mediterranean Zone. Our mountain ranges include the Pyrenees, Sierra Nevada, Sistema Iberico, Cordillera Cantabrica and Sistema Central.

The Palmera de Elche is the largest palm grove in Europe. It's located in the province of Alicante where I live.

Norway is way too far north for palms. The Netherlands is flat, so no mountain ranges. Morocco is warm enough for palms, but is not in Europe.
10. Hi I'm Camhammer. I am from a country famed for its multiculturalism, peacekeeping, diverse geography and large size. My country is famous for exporting comedians and world-class ice hockey players. Where am I from?

Answer: Canada

That's right hosers, it's Canada, the second largest country in the world by land area. Canada is the homeland of Jim Carrey, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, John Candy and countless other funny men. It's also the birthplace of legendary hockey players such as Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Bobby Orr, just to name a few.

Canada has some of the most varied geography in the world. The province that I live in, British Columbia, has coastal wetland regions in the west, desert in the centre and the rugged Rocky Mountains on the eastern border with Alberta.
