1. What do English speakers commonly call the Netherlands, but actually is the name of only part of the country?

Answer: Holland

Holland is in fact only a part of the Netherlands, but the name is used for the country as a whole. The Low Countries is used for the total of the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.
2. How is the Netherlands governed?

Answer: constitutional monarchy

The Netherlands has a constitution and a monarch. Queen Beatrix became queen in 1980 and abdicated in favour of her son, Willem-Alexander who became king in 2013.
3. The city of Rotterdam has one of the largest of these in the world.

Answer: seaport

Rotterdam's competitors are close by however (e.g. Singapore, Antwerp, London etc.).

Answer: Maas (Meuse)

The river Rhine enters the Netherlands from Germany, the Danube never enters Dutch territory and the Lek is a branch of the Rhine solely in the Netherlands.
