5. Battle of Buena Vista.

The tides here were very dangerous. Ships could easily be grounded. Thanks to the Navy's expert on amphibious landings, Admiral Arthur Dewey Struble, this landing was very successful.
8. Second Battle of the Marne

Answer: World War I

This was in July 15-17, 1918. By this time the U.S. had entered WWI. German forces moved by train from the Russian front west to Belgium and Eastern France, while U.S. troops moved by ship to help defend France. Germany did break through, but it was a last gasp before they lost the war. Germany signed an armistice and the last roar of weapons ended on Nov. 11, 1918. (The date we now celebrate Veterans' Day.)
9. Battle of Manila Bay.

Answer: Spanish-American War

An explosion of the USS Maine in the harbor of Havana gave America an excuse to get involved in the Cuban revolution. It is now widely believed the explosion was accidental.
10. Battle of Bastogne

Answer: World War II

In the German's last offensive, they forced the Allies to retreat, and delved 50 miles deep causing a bulge in Allied lines. The Battle of Bastogne was fought by desperate outnumbered troops. 13. Which date is known as D-Day?

Answer: June 6, 1944

Hope you got this one right! This is the day American, British, and Canadian troops landed on the beach of western France during WWII. A decision was made to land on the night of June 6th, rather than wait for the next operable time to land which would not be until June 19.
