Paul Revere led a very active life. He served as a rider for the Committees of Correspondence but never actually fought in any battle.

Answer: Lexington and Concord

April 19, 1775 - The Battle of Lexington and Concord is one that will always be revered in US history. Minutemen from miles around responded within hours to the bloodshed at Lexington and sent the Redcoats running for their lives back to Boston while shooting at them from behind trees, rooftops, and rocky fencerows. This was the start of the US Revolutionary War.

Gentleman Johnny led the British in this battle. He was both unaware of and unprepared for the colonials' use of guerrilla warfare.

The colonial soldiers had been training for warfare in a somewhat hapharzard way ever since the days of settlement and certainly, since the French and Indian War. However, once the British Government began to send massive numbers of troops along with Hessian mercenaries to America, they began to train in earnest.

Answer: The Quartering Act

British soldiers had a very great need for immediate housing and shelter. Barracks could not be built quickly enough for their housing. Instead, Britain passed this Act as a way to allow their soldiers a place of refuge in a time of need.
7. Who wrote the document "Common Sense"?

Answer: Thomas Paine

Thomas Paine was a transplanted and new member of colonial society. He had left Europe with one thought in mind - freedom. He lists in his document meant for the common man as a reader, reasons why it made sense to depart from the tyranical British rule and form an independent country based on the common man's interests and beliefs.
8. In which battle did General Cornwallis surrender?

Answer: Yorktown

Cornwallis refused to surrender personally. He sent a subordinate officer with his sword to surrender to General George Washington. The British band on hand supposedly played the song "The World Turned Upside Down".

The British under the command of General Howe, known as Bow Wow Howe by the colonists, was ordered to lead the attack on the colonists fortified on Bunker Hill. Putnam knew he had limited resources as far as amunition and soldiers were concerned. He issued this order in the hopes that his troops would be able to hold off British advances while shelling from his cannons upon the British ships in the harbor ensued.
10. Prior to which battle of the American Revolution did Washington cross the Delaware River?

Answer: The Battle of Trenton

General Washington needed a win to rally his beleagured troops from Valley Forge. He was afraid that if he didn't provide them with a tangible victory soon, he would lose his army. He realized the Hessians would not be expecting an attack on Christmas Day and knew their stronghold in Trenton might provide much needed supplies for his soldiers. Bloody footprints in the snow marked the coming and going of his troops due to the awful fact that the majority of his troops no longer had shoes or boots to cover their feet.
