Answer: Louis St-Laurent

The Seaway was officially opened in 1959. During construction they had to move 192.5 million cubic meters of earth and also relocated 6,500 people who otherwise would have been flooded out!
2. At the 1952 Winter Olympics (Oslo, Norway), Canada won their only Olympic gold medal in what sport in the 1950s?

Answer: Men's Ice Hockey

The Edmonton Mercurys did it with 7 wins and 1 tie. USA won the silver and Sweden the bronze. Canada would not win another Olympic gold medal in Men's Ice Hockey until 2002.

Answer: The Springhill Mining Disaster

These disasters occurred near the town of Springhill, Nova Scotia. The first one occurred February 21, 1891 killing 125 miners. The second one killed 39. The third explosion October 23, 1958 killed 75.
After that mining operations were shut down in that area.
