The Hillsborough River flows 54 miles from the Green Swamp through downtown Tampa. Native Americans first settled on the banks of the Hillsborough River about 15,000 years ago.
2. The Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine is built out of what?

Answer: Coquina

Coquina is slabs of shellrock that was quarried on Anastasia Island. It has remaind intact since it was built in 1672 and remains the oldest masonry fort in the United States.
3. Who was Florida's governor during the Civil War?

Answer: John Milton

Just prior to the end of the Civil War, Governor Milton gave his final address to Florida and said "Death would be perferable to reunion." He went to his home in Marianna and shot himself on April 1, 1865.
