On 24th July 1969 Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin landed the lunar module Eagle in the Sea of Tranquility while Michael Collins was orbiting the moon in the command module Columbia. Saturn V was the rocket that launched the spacecraft and Intrepid was the lunar module of the Apollo 12 mission.

Answer: Max Yasgur

Max Yasgur leased his dairy farm to the organisers of the three day festival that came to be known as "Three Days of Peace and Music". Some of the best musical acts of the time appeared in the festival including The Who, Santana, Crosby Stills and Nash, Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat and Jimi Hendrix to name but a few.
3. Who became Vice President of the United States in 1969?

Answer: Spiro T. Agnew

Agnew was Vice President to Richard M. Nixon from 1969 until 1973. In 1973 he resigned following accusations of bribery, tax evasion and extortion. He was Governor of Maryland from 1967 until his election as Vice President. Lyndon B. Johnson was President of the USA from 1963 until 1969 and Jimmy Carter was President from 1977 until 1981.

Answer: Idris

Idris was King of Libya from 1941 until he was toppled by Gaddafi. Idris, who managed to unify Libya, fled to Egypt where he died in 1983. Zog was the last King of Albania, Faruk the last King of Egypt and Haile Selassie the last Emperor of Ethiopia.

Answer: Neil Young

This was Manchester City's fourth FA Cup win and Leicester's fourth defeat in an FA Cup Final (1949, 1961, 1963 and 1969). Both teams were playing in the then First Division of English Football. Allan Clarke of Leicester City was named man of the match.

Tony Jacklin finished two strokes ahead of New Zealander Bob Charles. In third place, one stroke behind Charles, were Roberto De Vicenzo from Argentina and Peter Thomson of Australia. Jack Nicklaus and David Love of USA were tied in 6th place five strokes behind Jacklin.

The Beatles, augmented by Billy Preston on piano, played for 42 minutes recording five songs in the process. The songs, used layer in the 1970 "Let It Be" documentary, were "Get Back", "Don't Let Me Down", "I've Got a Feeling", "One after 909" and "Dig a Pony". It was the last time ever that the Beatles performed live.
8. Which two countries clashed in 1969 over the Damansky Island on the Ussuri River?

Answer: Soviet Union and China

The Ussuri River formed part of the Sino-Russian border. The clashes started on the 2nd of March and lasted until September of the same year. Although the clashes left a few dead on both sides the shock of an impending war between the two powerhouses literally shook the world. Both sides massed armies on either side of the border but the war, fortunately, never materialised.
9. Which Irishman won the 1969 Nobel Prize in Literature?

Answer: Samuel Beckett

Samuel Barclay Beckett was born in Dublin in 1906 and died in Paris in 1989. Beckett wrote plays, novels, and television and cinema scripts. Some notable works include "Murphy","Molloy","Malone Dies""Waiting for Godot" and "Endgame". The award was given "for his writing, which - in new forms for the novel and drama - in the destitution of modern man acquires its elevation".
The other options were all Irishmen who won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
William Butler Yeats in 1923, George Bernard Shaw in 1925 and Seamus Heaney in 1995.
10. Who directed the 1969 film "Midnight Cowboy" starring Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight?

Answer: John Schlesinger

John Schlesinger was born in London in 1926 and died in Palm Springs, California in 2003. He directed films such as "Billy Liar","Darling","Far From the Madding Crowd", "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Marathon Man". He was nominated three times for best director and won an Oscar award for "Midnight Cowboy".
