1. Amelia Earhart lost at sea - Hindenburg explosion - Japan invades China.

Answer: 1937

Amelia Earhart was lost at sea on July 2nd, 1937. The Hindenburg exploded on the 6th of May. It still holds the record of being the largest aircraft to ever fly. When the Japanese invaded China in 1937, it sparked the second Sino-Japanese war. This invasion would eventually merge with WWII.
2. Ford Motor company established - Panama Canal begins construction - Tour de France estalished.

Answer: 1903

The Tour de France was officially announced on January 19th, 1903. The Panama Canal is considered one of the greatest man-made features of the 20th century. It shaved five thousand miles off the sea routes between the Atlantic and the Pacific. Established by Henry Ford, the Ford Motor company created cars at affordable prices.
3. End of Tokugawa Shogunate in Japan, Memorial day first observed, invention of the stapler.

Answer: 1868

C. H. Gould invented and patented the stapler. The end of the Tokugawa shogunate was sparked by American desire to trade with Japan. Memorial was first enacted to honor the men and women who served in the Civil war.

Sputnik was launched on October 4th, 1957. It sparked the space race and instills U.S. embarrassment. In Little Rock, school staff was reluctant to allow nine black students into they newly integrated high school. The artificial heart was first tested in a dog. It lived for 90 extra minutes.
6. Pullman strike - Sino-Japanese War - Argon discovered.

Answer: 1894

Argon was discovered by Scottish chemist William Ramsay and Lord Rayleigh. Ramsay, together with others, also discovered krpton, neon, and xenon. The Pullman strike protested the unfair treatment of railway workers. The first Sino-Japanese war was fought over Korea and its natural resources.
7. Benito Mussolini is a dictator, Chrysler founded, The Great Gatsby

Answer: 1925

The Italian parliament, overthrown in January of 1925, would be immediately replaced by Benito Mussolini and the Fascist party of Italy. The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Chrysler was founded by Walter P. Chrysler, who resurrected the Maxwell motor company after its collapse in 1904.
8. Berlin Wall falls - Tienanmen Square massacre - Exxon Valdez oil spill.

Answer: 1989

The tanker spilled over 11,000,000 gallons into the Prince William Sound. On June Fourth, the Chinese military gunned down almost 2,000 Chinese protesters that were protesting the harsh government laws. Also, after nearly 40 years, the notorious Berlin Wall was breached and its removal began. It was the beginning of the end for Communism East Germany and the other Eastern Bloc countries.
9. Pol Pot becomes dictator - Viking one lands on Mars - Microsoft opened.

Answer: 1976

Viking one was the first Mars probe to ever land on mars. Viking two arrived in September. Pol Pot led the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. His brutal leadership ended in the enslavement and death of his opponents. Microsoft, founded by computer genius Bill Gates, has made great strides in the computing industry.
10. D-Day - Battle of the Bulge - GI Bill of Rights.

Answer: 1944

On June 6, U.S., British, and Canadian troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in five different locations. All the invasions were successful except problems were faced on Omaha Beach. An invasion of that should have taken minutes took nearly two hours.

The battle of the Bulge was Germany's last chance to stop the Americans. The GI bill of rights, signed in 1944, ensured compensation and college education for those who served in any war.
