Answer: Finland

The first female members of parliament were elected in Finland in 1907 after receiving the right to vote and stand in 1906. Nineteen female members were elected. New Zealand was the first country to allow women to vote in 1893 followed by Australia in 1902.

However,in both instances they were not allowed to stand for election. Norway allowed females to vote and stand for elections in 1913.

It was created for the weekly puzzle page in FUN, which was an eight page comic section of the newspaper the New York World on 21st December 1913. Arthur Wynne (1871-1945) was an English born New York journalist and played the violin for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra before moving to New York City. The New York World was published from 1860 - 1931.
3. What significant event occurred on September 28, 1928?

Answer: Penicillin was discovered

Alexander Fleming (1881-1955) discovered penicillin at St. Mary's Hospital in London.This heralded the birth of the antibiotic age. Babe Ruth (1895-1948) hit his 60th home run on September 30,1927. The Tomb of King Tut was discovered by Howard Carter in November 1922. The Stock Market crash began on October 24, 1929.
4. Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner" in 1814. In what year was this passed by Congress as the official USA National Anthem?

Answer: 1931

F.S. Key (1779-1843) was a lawyer and in 1814 wrote the poem after witnessing the bombardment of Fort Henry by the British Navy in 1814. IWhen newspapers reprinted the poem with music a few weeks after it was written, the newspapers renamed it "The Star Spangled Banner."

The Lucky Lady II was assisted by in-flight fuelling and the total time airborne was 94 hours and 1 minute. Charles Lindbergh piloted the Spirit of St. Louis as the first non-stop flight from New York to Paris in 1927. On August 6, 1945 the Enola Gay became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb.

"The Sound of Music" was adapted into a movie in 1965 starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. "South Pacific" opened at the Majestic Theatre, New York on April 7, 1949 and the movie was premiered in 1958. ""Oklahoma" opened as a Broadway musical on March 31, 1943 and the film adaption was in 1955.

Born as Malcolm Little in 1925 and it was while in prison that he became associated with the Nation of Islam (NOI) and changed his name to Malcolm X. In 1964 he became disillusioned with NOI and formed his own black Muslim group Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU).

There is much confusion as to who the assassins were and as to why he was shot. Three man were arrested for the shootings. He was shot in Harlem on February 21, 1965. John F. Kennedy was shot in Dallas, Texas in November 22, 1963. Robert Kennedy was shot in Los Angeles on June 6, 1968 and Martin Luther King Jr. in Memphis on April 4, 1968.

"With a Little Help from My Friends" was a Beatles song of 1967. "That's What Friends Are For" was written by Burt Bacharach and recorded by Rod Stewart in 1985.
