1. Lars Larson was captured in 1812 by the British who were patrolling the waters along the coast of Norway. Which religion was he introduced to while aboard a prison ship off the coast of England?

Answer: Quaker Faith

Lars Larson was given a book written in Danish that contained the teachings of the Quakers. He and several men read the book and found the ideas to be very interesting.
2. After his release in 1814, Lars Larson returned home to teach the Quaker faith to his friends and family. Where was his hometown?

Answer: Stavanger

Lars Larson, like many of the other Sloopers, was born and raised in the coastal town of Stavanger.
3. After the decision to venture to America was made, Lars Larson requested the help of this man to purchase land and learn the laws in the United States. Who was it?

Answer: Cleng Peerson

Cleng Peerson was born on May 17, 1783 in Tysvaer, Norway and died December 16, 1865 in Bosque County, Texas. He was a dreamer and a wanderer, often refered to as "Peer Gynt of the Prairie" or the "Norwegian Paul Bunyan." He led many groups of Norwegians deep into the heart of America.
4. Cleng Peerson chose Knut Eide to accompany him on his trip to America in 1821. What happened to Knut Eide shortly after their arrival in America?

Answer: Andreas Stangeland

Andreas was born on the Stangeland Farm just outside of Stavanger on September 1, 1799. His father had died before he was asked to leave for America, so the decision rested with his mother, who allowed him to leave. Since he wasn't the elder son, he was not likely to inherit the family farm, so he decided to try his luck in the New World.
6. What was the name of the ship that transported the Norwegians to America?

Answer: The Restoration

The ship was purchased by six wealthier familiers for 1,800 specie dollars and was repaired by Lars Larson, who was a carpenter and boat builder. The boat was originally called The Hope. It was 1/4 the size of the Mayflower, twice as crowded and is often refered to as the "Norwegian Mayflower".

Answer: Wine

Legend say that the barnacle covered barrel was filled with wine. When attempting to fish it out of the water, Lars Larson almost lost his hand to a shark. Supposedly the passengers became intoxicated and did not realize that they were sailing into a harbor (Funchal in the Madeira Islands), heavily guarded by cannon without their colors on display.

They were almost fired upon but managed to raise the flag just in time.
