1. About how many miles were the Cherokees forced to march?

Answer: 2,200 miles

The Cherokee Trail of Tears was about 2,200 miles. The unhappy Cherokees were forced to follow the soldiers for a year (!) to what is now the state of Oklahoma.
2. From which state to which present-day state were Cherokees forced to march?

Answer: John Ross

John Ross was born in 1790 and died in 1866. His father was of Scottish descent and his mother was one-eighth Cherokee. Yet he gave his allegiance to Cherokees. He was a strong leader, who fought for Cherokee rights, but did not always win. He led his own people through the Trail of Tears and was still their leader in Oklahoma.
4. What treaty caused Andrew Jackson to move Cherokees under Indian Removal Act?

Answer: Treaty of New Echota

The Treaty of New Echota was signed by Major Ridge's party of about 100 Cherokee people. It went into effect in 1836 and gave two years for the Cherokee to pack up and get out of their homeland.
5. In what battle of the Creek Wars did the Cherokees John Ross and Major Ridge save a life of General Jackson?

Answer: False

Andrew Jackson was the president of the United States from 1829 to 1837. Martin Van Buren succeeded him, from 1837 to 1841. The Trail of Tears happened between 1838 and 1839, making Van Buren the president during this event, but Andrew Jackson is traditionally held to blame.
