Colonel Hiram Berdan commanded this specially trained unit as they were sent forward to reconnoiter the woods to see how far south does the confederate right flank extend along Seminary Ridge.

Answer: Hummelbaugh's House

During the confusion of the battle, the wounded General was left on the field to be discovered by a detail from the 14th Vermont Regiment. After dying, he was buried on the same property.
