Augustine Vinton Barker was the Ebensburg industrial developer.
2. What was the orginal name of Vintondale?

Answer: Vintonvale

It was changed to Vintondale because it was too easily confused with nearby Vinco.
3. What or who were the orginal houses built in Vintondale for?

Answer: Vinton Lumber Company

These houses are still standing. The wood gathered by this company were used to make the railroads. This was the big business before the coal mines opened up.
4. When did first telephone line come to Vintondale?

Answer: 1894

This line came from Ebensburg which is about 13 miles away from Vintondale.
5. Coal was first mined in Vintondale in 1875.

Answer: False

It was mined in 1894 from its #1 mine. The mines later shut down and ended most jobs in Vintondale. There are very few places to work, which is why the population is so low.
6. What year was the Eliza Furnace built?

Answer: 1845

The furnace employed over 90 people and 45 mules to make about 1,080 tons of iron a year.

Hungarian Reformed Church on Main Street, Sts. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church on Third Street at Lovell, and Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church on Fourth Street. In its first half century of history, Vintondale had a succession of other churches but they eventually closed, including a Church of God (Anderson, IN), c. 1900; a Presbyterian Church, 1912, and a Christian and Mission Alliance Church, founded in 1923 or '24.
