Stemming from a sandwich shop opened by one of the founders, Peter Buck, Subway was originally called "Pete's Submarines". However, during radio advertisements, the name of the shop sounded more like "Pizza Marines", so the name was changed to "Pete's Subway", and eventually just plain "Subway".
4. Founded by Forrest and Leroy Raffel of Ohio, in 1964, this restaurant was based on the idea that fast food didn't necessarily need to mean hamburgers.

Answer: Arby's

Harlan (Colonel) Sanders used to make his chicken back in 1929 in North Corbin, Kentucky, but it took too long to cook. He found Pete Harman, and the two of them started the first KFC in South Salt Lake, Utah.

Answer: Long John Silver's

Long John Silver's, or "LJS", actually does get it's name from the Robert Louis Stevenson book "Treasure Island". The first LJS was built in an old seafood restaurant called The Cape Codder... which contributed to the initial design of the restaurants, as well as the theme still used today.
8. Ray Kroc founded this franchise in 1955, in Des Plaines, Illinois. In 1987, this restaurant started building little playgrounds attached to the building for kids to play on and around.
