Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What happens the day of the feast of Fehman to begin the story?

Answer: The Dark Lord's army attacks and kills all the Kai Lords at the Kai monastery except one lone Kai.

The morning of the Fehmarn feast you, Silent Wolf, are out collecting firewood when the monastery is attacked. You race to make it back to fight with your brethren but hit your head on a branch and knock yourself out. When you come to, you discovered all the Kai have been killed except for you and you must warn the King of your country (Sommerlund) that you are all now vulnerable. Being the last Kai, your name is changed from Silent Wolf to Lone Wolf and thus your adventure begins!
2. Once on your quest, you run across a wizard being assaulted by a troupe of Giaks. You rush in to help the wizard and once the fight is complete what does he give you a token of friendship?

Answer: A crystal star pendant

The wizard's name is Banedon. He is a member of the brotherhood of the Crystal Star, a magician's guild. He was on a quest to warn the Kai Lords of a possible attack on the monastery but apparently was too late. Like many of the characters in the Lone Wolf series, he appears again in later books.
3. To finish the book successfully what is the object of your quest?

Answer: To warn the king of Sommerland

The Dark Lord Vasha was destroyed in the distant past at the Battle of Maakengorge. Finding the Sommerswerd will be your quest of the second book. As you progress through the books your quests become in line with the footsteps of Sun Eagle, the founder of the Kai order.
4. Lone Wolf adventures use a 'combat result table' to determine how successful each side is during each round of combat. What statistic is used to determine the ratio between Lone Wolf and his enemy?

Answer: Combat Skill

The Combat system used in Lone Wolf requires two vital stats, combat skill and endurance points. All enemies you encounter throughout the book have both a combat skill and a starting endurance point. First you take the difference between your combat skill and that of your enemy, which gives you a combat ratio.

This ratio determines which column you use on the combat result table to allow the combat to be more in favor of the stronger fighter. You then use a d10 or a random number table to pick a number between 1 and 10. Once you find the corresponding cell on the table you will know how many endurance points you and the enemy will each lose during that round of combat. Once one of combatant's endurance points is reduced to zero the combat is over. If Lone wolf loses all of his Endurance Points then the game is over and you have to start over.
5. What happens to you in the book if you are instructed to eat and you do not have any food or you do not have the skill 'Hunting'?

Answer: You lose Endurance

You are periodically instructed to eat throughout the book. If you are unable to eat when instructed to do so you will lose 3 Endurance points. If you have the skill 'Hunting' it is as good as having food in your pack unless you are in a desolate area in which you will be instructed that you can not hunt for food there.
6. What is the capital of Sommerlund?

Answer: Holmgard

Hammerdal is the capital of the neighboring ally Durenor. Ragadorn is a city half way between Holmgard and Hammerdel. I made up Sommerdal.

This book only takes place in a very small part of the world of Magnamund which borders on detail of the level of Grayhawk or Forgoten Relms. Joe Dever has quite an imagination with dozens of different nations, political factions, languages and monetary units used throughout his books.
7. What might the discipline of 'Sixth Sense' be useful for?

Answer: Figuring out which passage choice to pick next

'Sixth Sense' is one of 10 Kia disciplines you can select at the start the book. You are allowed to select 5 of the 10 at the start of the first book but can increase the number of skills as you complete books. The other skills you can select are Camouflage, Hunting, Tracking, Healing, Weaponskill, Mind Shield, Mind Blast, Animal Kinship, and Mind Over Matter.

These skills play an important role in your success or failure of the books.
8. The Lone Wolf series was unique in that the books could stand alone but were designed to be played in sequence. When beginning a new book in the series, if you had completed the previous book you were allowed to retain a certain aspect(s) of your profile. Which of the following could you carry over to the next book?

Answer: All of these

In the Lone Wolf series you get to carry over pretty much everything you have at the end of the last book. Also at the beginning of the next book you get to add one new skill so if you have completed book one you can start book two with 6 skills instead of 5. Not to mention some of the weapons and special items you find in a book can become very useful in future books.
9. Which weapon is not available to you throughout the adventure?

Answer: Catapult

Sorry, no catapults for your personal use. The weapons available to Lone Wolf are the dagger, spear, mace, short sword, warhammer, sword, axe, quarter staff and broadsword. You start the adventure with an axe but can find other weapons throughout the book. Later in the series you can use a bow as well.

In dire straights you can use your fists but you take a severe penalty to your combat skill.
10. When you complete your mission in book one, a new quest is laid out for you for book two. What is this quest?

Answer: Obtain the Sommerswerd

The Sommerswerd is an amazing weapon kept safe by the Kingdom of Durenor. The sword's powers can only be fully wielded by a Kai Lord. Now that war is upon the land, the sword is a crucial weapon to your cause. So you better get it before the Dark Lords take over your home of Sommerland!

Thank you for playing my quiz! 'Flight from the Dark' can now be played online for free on the Project Aon web site (www.projectaon.org). The site has the complete blessings of the author, Joe Dever, since the books have quite a cult following and unfortunately the books have been out of print for almost 10 years. The first 20 books are available to play. The site is completely nonprofit and run by volunteer fans.

I would love some feedback, especially if you are a fan of the series.
