Question 1 of 10
1. Deep below the Earth's surface live the Umber Hulk. Big, burly beasts lurking hidden within the very walls just waiting to pounce on unsuspecting adventurers. With a body designed to rip through earth and rock the Umber Hulk can make light work of mere flesh. To make matters worse the evil beasties have strange glittering eyes, which cause what? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Toughest of the Earth bound monsters is the mighty Tarrasque. This beast is just ridiculous in its power, that mere mortals can be grateful it spends the vast majority of its life sleeping. Of course when it wakes up it's hungry and looking for snacks. When a creature is fifty feet long it's likely to have equally large claws and jaws. The Tarrasque is living proof of this. Its claws do great damage; its jaws have the tendency to remove limbs with frightening regularity. Then there's the powerful whipping tail and the pointy horns. Magic spells rebound off the beast's tough hide. All but the most experienced mortals are likely to be affected by what upon seeing the Tarrasque? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. The Behir. This nasty critter scurries about on its many legs or tucks them in and slither like a snake. The Behir likes to do in adventurers by biting them then coiling about its prey and squeezing, bringing into play ripping talon attacks as well. If you're really unlucky the Behir might swallow you whole. They are 40 feet long after all. The beast has one other form of attack. What is it? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. The Death Knight. As an old Dungeon Master, you appreciate any monster that is able to use Power Words, Symbols and Fireballs while still wielding a lethal sword. The Death Knight carries with it the armour it carried in life but it has the added protection of magic resistance. What is special about the Death Knight's magic resistance? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Giants are a staple of the game. Many different varieties are out there just waiting to turn a group of adventurers to mash. My favorite giant is the Fomorian Giant. Why? They're ugly, they're evil, and when they hit they hurt. What Giant trait does the poor Fomorian giant not possess? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. The artificially constructed Golems are another of my favorites. Players seem to like them too, as if there's a Golem around it's frequently guarding loot. The Iron Golem is a true challenge to all but the toughest group of adventurers. It's immune to all but the most enchanted of weapons, spells mostly bounce of its metallic hide, and magical fire even heals it. That's just the defensive attributes of the Iron Golem, its attacking features include a very hard hitting strike plus what other special feature? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. My favorite monster of all is the mighty Demi-Lich. Players acting a bit too big for their magical boots? Introduce them to the Demi-Lich; the survivors will be surprisingly humble. What makes them so nasty? Well, the Demi-Lich is close to indestructible, only top of the range weapons like the Vorpal sword or mace of disruption even scratch this tough guy. That's if the players can hit the Demi-Lich's low armour class. This guy will hit adventurers with a howl that causes death when first awoken from its unholy slumber, but the most feared attack comes later. What is the main attack of the Demi-Lich? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. Another of my favorites is the sinister sneaky Ettercap. Best described as half Troll half spider these guys like to lurk in deep dark forests. One sign you have stumbled into Ettercap territory is when you stumble into an Ettercap trap. Using the spider-like silk they produce from special glands the Ettercap will prefer to immobilize its prey before moving in for a quick kill. How does achieve this quick kill? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. How to annoy players? Kill them in their sleep. Simple, and what better way than the sinister sneaky Slithering Tracker. This nasty creature looks like nothing more than a giant transparent tadpole. It's a good reason for players not to make camp underground where these beasts like to dwell. It sneaks up on the unwary and paralyzes its prey. It can kill a man in an hour by draining them of what? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Adventurers making their way through soggy swamps had best keep an eye out for this monster; the Shambling Mound. These great masses of intelligent vegetation strike out with two arm like appendages and any victim hit by both arms becomes entangled with the risk of suffocating in the creatures slime very real. Some forms of attack actually cause the Shambling Mound to grow bigger and more powerful. Which kind of attack? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Confusion

Umber Hulks enjoy eating the young of Purple worms, Ankhegs and pretty much anything else they can get their hands on, especially humans.

Answer: Fear

Perhaps it's a good thing that many are struck by uncontrollable fear and choose to run rather than stay in the presence of the Tarrasque.
3. What is it?

Answer: shoots lightning bolt from its mouth

The lightning bolt can inflict some serious damage. However, if you manage to defeat the Behir it's time to disassemble the remains. The horns can be brewed up to make the ink for lightning bolt scrolls. The talons can likewise be used for the ink on a Neutralize Poison scroll.

The scales are valued by armourers for their hardness and finally it's also worth checking the stomach of the beastie where there is a chance of finding some belongings of previously swallowed prey.

Answer: can cause spell reflection

There is a percentage chance of the spell being reflected back at the spell caster, that's never ever enjoyed by players. Death Knights also have the power to control lesser undead and it radiates fear (for good reason) at all times.

Answer: Boulder throwing

The Fomorians are twisted and deformed making it impossible to throw large rocks. Instead they like to sneak up on people, they do so with great skill, and surprise them; frequently with a smack on the head with a club.

Answer: Poisonous Cloud

Every 7 rounds the Golem lets out a cloud of poisonous gas. While every 7 rounds doesn't sound too bad, it can take a long time to cut an Iron Golem down to size. Only the most powerful of artisans can build the Iron Golem and requires a lazy 100,000 gold pieces to build.

Answer: Soul Trapping

Starting with powerful spell casters and working its way through the party, the Demi-Lich will steal the souls of its adversaries trapping them in the gems that have replaced it's teeth. The victim's body collapses and rots away to nothing in a single turn.

The Demi-Lich is also able to cast the most savage of curses upon enemies. After all that, if the remains of the Demi-Lich aren't destroyed it will reform in a matter of days.

Answer: Poison

Luckily the Ettercap tends to spurn the company of its peers; unluckily it does like to hang out with spiders, big ones! The Ettercap's poison glands sell for up to 1000 gold pieces.

Answer: Plasma

Naturally the paralyzed victim is in no position to warn the others of their current difficulties. Nothing annoys players more than their character waking up dead!

Answer: Electrical

Electrical attacks actually cause the Shambling Mound to gain a foot in height and an extra Hit Dice with every electrical attack.
