Alas, Shuler did not draw any of those lands. He remains my favourite artist, followed by Mark Poole and Susan van Camp, whom I have both briefly met at a convention once. Mark Poole drew the 'Sacrifice lands', Pat Morrissey drew the 'Storage lands' and Kaja Foglio drew the 'Rainbow Vale'.

The Hymn is a Sorcery and possibly the most wanted card from the 'Fallen Empires' set. Having an opponent discarding two cards at random for just two black mana surely is nice, but the fact that it is a Sorcery card only allows you to cast it during your own turn.

The followers of Tourach, the Order of the Ebon Hand, were the arch-enemy of Icatia's Order of Leithbur. Thrulls were creatures, created for sacrifice by the Order of the Ebon Hand and Thallids are forest dwelling creatures.

The 'Thrull Champion' grants +1/+1 to all Thrulls. By tapping it you can gain control of a target Thrull. Unlike 'Lord of Atlantis', 'Goblin King' or 'Zombie Master', the Thrull Champion is a 'Summon Thrull' rather than a 'Summon Lord' and thus he receives the bonus as well.

The other races/empires in 'Fallen Empires' include Dwarves, Goblins, Merfolk, Icatians (including followers of Leithbur and Farrel), followers of Tourach and Thallids.

Farrel was a priest of Icatia. After the fall of Trokair, the Empire's citadel, he broke ties with Icatia and the Order of Leithbur and became a vigilant together with his followers. They both battled the rest of Icatia and the Order of the Ebon Hand.

Ailis Connaut is mentioned in many flavor texts as being a brave scout, who scouted enemy positions to avoid surprise attacks by Orcish and Goblin Raiders. Oliver Farrel was an Icatian Priest who broke ties with Icatia, Jherana Rure was the Commander of the Counter-Insurgency (probably part of the Order of the Ebon Hand) and Lydia Wynforth was the Mayor of Trokair.

The 'Hand of Justice' has a power and toughness of 2/6. That, partially, makes the card pretty expensive, namely 5 colourless and 1 White Mana. That high casting cost makes it a little impractical to play.

Homarids invaded the Merfolk realms of Vodalia, Thrulls staged a rebellion and overthrew the Order of the Ebon Hand and Orcs and Merfolk were traditional enemies. Orcs and Goblins traditionally co-operated, mostly against Merfolk, Icatians and Dwarves.

Ivra Jursdotter is quoted as an enemy of Vodalia, possibly Orc (see flavor texts from 'Vodalian Soldiers' by Jeff A. Menges and 'Goblin Grenade' by Dan Frazier), Pashadar Dirf was a Goblin Flotilla Commander, who was killed when he underestimated the Magical powers of the Vodalian Mage (see 'Vodalian Mage' by Mark Poole) and General Khurzog was an Orcish General ('Orcish Spy' by Pete Venters). Volnikov was quoted on 'Vodalian Soldiers' by Richard Kane-Ferguson.

For one mana you can remove two creatures in any graveyard and put Saproling tokens into the game, which can be used by 'Elvish Farmer' and 'Thallid Devourer'.

The Saproling Tokens are 1/1 green creatures. In combination with 'Fungal Bloom' a player can create a whole horde of these creatures. Throw in a 'Rampage' and your enemy can start packing. They can also be used to bolster the power/toughness of 'Thallid Devourer' (+1/+2 until end of turn for every sacrificed token) or to gain life through 'Elvish Farmer' (2 life for every sacrificed token). Saproling tokens would re-enter Magic in later cardsets (around Urza's Saga) with 'Verdant Force' and 'Greener Pastures'.
