Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What color is Baltic Avenue (on the 2008 edition)?

Answer: Brown

Baltic Avenue along with Mediterranean Avenue are the cheapest properties on the board. Baltic lies between Income Tax and Community Chest.
[Note: In the newer versions as of 2008, the color of this monopoly was changed from purple to brown - perhaps to better differentiate it from the burgundy/magenta properties.]
2. There are three light blue streets creating a monopoly: which is the third to go along with Connecticut Avenue and Vermont Avenue?

Answer: Oriental Avenue

Oriental Avenue can be found between Chance and Reading Railroad.
3. In 2010, a new circular version of Monopoly was introduced to celebrate which anniversary of the game?

Answer: 75th

The new board was introduced at the 2010 Toy Fair in New York City and eliminates cash altogether, using credit cards instead. However, for those traditionalists among us, the older version will still be marketed.
4. Aside from Baltic and Mediterranean Avenues, which is the only other "two property" monopoly on the board?

Answer: Boardwalk/Park Place

Boardwalk and Park Place, the dark blue properties, are the most expensive on the board and they generate the highest rent for your hotels.
5. Which is the only railroad that has, in part, the same name as one of the green properties?

Answer: Pennsylvania

There are four railroads on the board, each one conveniently placed on every side for ease in commuting.
6. Which color is associated with New York Avenue?

Answer: Orange

New York Avenue forms an orange monopoly along with Tennessee Avenue and St. James Place. It can be found adjacent to Free Parking.
7. What was the name of the movie starring Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern which included the same name as one of the yellow properties?

Answer: King of Marvin Gardens

"King of Marvin Gardens" was the name of a 1972 movie directed by Bob Rafelson.
Bruce Dern plays the title role who "had gone directly to jail, lives on the Boardwalk and fronts for the local mob in Atlantic City".
8. Of the following four, which one is NOT a red property?

Answer: Ventnor Avenue

All three red properties can be found between Free Parking and the B&O Railroad. Ventnor Avenue belongs with the yellow monopoly.
9. What is the color associated with St. Charles Place?

Answer: Magenta

St. Charles Place fits in the magenta group along with States Avenue and Virginia Avenue, surrounded by jail (or just visiting) and the Electric Company.
10. After a corporate merger in 1991, which company ultimately owned the rights to Monopoly? Be careful - only one answer is truly correct!

Answer: Hasbro

This is a bit of a trick question since Parker Brothers is currently a wholly owned subsidiary of Hasbro. In 1991 Hasbro bought Parker Brothers and Tonka, thereby acquiring the rights to Monopoly which is considered the most successful board game in the world!
