Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the overall strategy of a Psychatog deck?

Answer: Draw tons of cards, then discard them all to the 'tog

Psychatog has the ability to discard a cards for +1/+1, and remove 2 cards in your graveyard from the game for +1/+1. Therefore, with a 7 card hand, the Psychatog can get +10/+10, and with certain spells, much more is possible.
2. The Age of Magic, known as "Black Summer", was named after which card?

Answer: Necropotence

The summer of 1996 was known as the Black Summer because over 1/2 of all decks competing in large tournaments were based around Necropotence. Ironically, the winner of the tournament was Tom Champeng, who played a White Weenie deck, with tons of Pro-Black creatures.
3. What two cards were the first "Major Dominating" cards of the Type 2 Environment?

Answer: Black Vise and Zuran Orb

Black Vise was extremely devastating, and well known throughout the early T2 tournament scene. In fact, it was so powerful, it was soon restricted, and stays that way now. Zuran Orb was also considered extremely powerful, as it could provide an extra boost of life, plus, if your lands are to be destroyed, you can still get life out of them (I.E. Armageddon)
4. What is the most popular Odyssey-block deck?

Answer: Blue and Green Wild Mongrel Madness Deck

Blue/green madness decks have taken over the Odyssey block. Their speed and swiftness is amazing, and with blue involved a few good counterspells, like Circular Logic, make the B/G Madness/Flashback deck a tough deck to beat within the Odyssey block.
5. What card was banned from Mercadian Masques-Block tournaments, since over half of the decks competing in them were based around this card?

Answer: Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero

Over half of the decks competing in the Mercadian Masques tournaments were Rebel decks, so the DCI had to do something about it. By banning the Rebel's most powerful card, they severely lessened the number of "rebels" in the tournaments.
6. The Archdeck "True Discard decks" died out practically right after it was created, but was brought back by which card? (What card adds a core to pure discard decks?)

Answer: Megrim

A real "True Discard" deck couldn't last, since even when the lock is maintained, there is no way to win. When Megrim came, however, they were all brought back with a new twist; Discarding cards was a lot more painful this time.
7. What card was known as a "Wrath of God", "Armageddon", and "Mind Twist" all in one?

Answer: Balance

Until it was restricted, Balance was an extremely powerful card to be played. It was simple to discard a number of your lands to Zuran Orb, play out a bit of your hand, sac a few creatures to Diamond Valley for life, then cast balance to wipe out your opponent's lands, creatures, and hand.
8. What change in elf decks was brought around greatly in the Onslaught cycle?

Answer: With Onslaught, there are a lot more elf decks which used the elves for power, instead of just mana.

Well, before this elves weren't really ever used for anything besides mana, except in a few decks. Wrong Answers: Elves could always get multi-colored mana, with Quirion Elves and Llanowar Dead. Elves were actually mostly in Mono-green decks, so that doesn't count. There were also elves with different types, like Llanowar Knight, who's an "Elf Knight".
9. What card brought a huge number of Cycling decks into the environment?

Answer: Astral Slide

Astral slide carved the way for "Cycling Decks", decks that could use cycling cards in conjunction with Lightning Rift for damage, Astral Slide for easy Morph creatures, and still get to draw a card to do it again.
10. What card is quickly replacing Terror and Dark Banishing as a new, cheap, easy to use Type 2 Creature Removal Spell?

Answer: Smother

Smother is being used a lot more commonly now, since many small creatures with powerful abilities are entering the fray. Smother, along with Chainer's Edict for large creatures, are quickly entering black decks all over the T-2 Environment.
