Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A man named Reed Sandridge dubbed himself "The Kindness Investor". He gives money away every day and it has become his favorite pastime. What is the limit he has set for himself, to give away per person?

Answer: Ten Dollars

Reed Sandridge started giving money away on the third anniversary of his mother's death. He says she was a kind and compassionate woman who once gave him the advice, "when you're going through tough times, that's when you most need to give back." He had recently lost his job and remembered his mom's wise words of wisdom and so he started on his journey of "giving back".

He gives ten dollars away every single day to a complete stranger. He started a blog about the people he has met while practicing his hobby.

His hope is that sharing those stories with the world with help spread the "idea" and inspire others into spreading the kindness around, serving two purposes at the same time. One, by helping people and two, using the acts of goodwill as a way to pay respect to his mother's memory.
2. Some people's hobbies are all about collecting things and others' are about creating things. This next hobby combines both creation and collecting. This guy named Mike Carmichael has a unique way of collecting layers of paint. What shape do you think he uses to save these painted layers in?

Answer: Ball

Mike's artistic vision for his ball of paint started on January 1, 1977. It was a small project he started with his toddler, painting a baseball pastel blue. At first he was going to just paint 1000 coats and then cut it in half to look at the colors in the cross-sections.

After painting it every single day and watching it grow, Mike found it difficult to stop painting, so he just kept on painting it. In January 2016 it will be thirty-nine years that he has been painting this baseball. It has over 24,000 layers of paint on it and weighs two and a half tons.

He lets people come in and take pictures of it and if they want to put a layer of paint on it, they can do that too. Just head to Alexandria, Indiana if you want to add a layer of paint to a baseball.
3. Audrey Horncastle loves to knit. Knitting is not unusual at all and is an enjoyable hobby, but Audrey puts a twist to her knitting that some consider to be odd. She knits a particular body part. Which body part does she like to knit?

Answer: Breasts

Audrey is a spunky woman from the U.K. She started knitting breasts for her daughter, Rhona, to use as a teaching aide in the maternity ward where her daughter is employed. Rhona uses the flaxen boobs to teach mothers how to breast feed. So far Audrey has made over 100 breasts in a three year time span and plans to continue knitting boobs as long as there is a demand for them.
4. Some may think this next hobby is gross, but Graham Barker doesn't think so. According to the New York Daily News, he's been collecting this item for the past 26 years. What yucky thing has he been collecting? Don't bust a gut trying to figure this one out.

Answer: Navel Fluff

Graham has been collecting belly button lint for over 26 years. As of 2010 his collection weighed in at 22.1 grams (which is a lot, the average daily harvest is just 3 milligrams!) and made the Guinness World Records in the 2002 edition. He has even sold 3 jars of the stuff to a museum, but won't say how much they paid for it.

He started collecting bellybutton fluff to satisfy a curiosity about how much lint one person can produce. He sees no reason to stop and plans to continue collecting it for as long as he is able to. Who knows what the final tally for the human production of belly button lint will be.
5. I've heard that a man with only an elementary level education has been writing all over his vehicles. They say he even wrote on the windshield and identification plates. Is there really a hobby called vehicle tattooing?

Answer: Yes

It's True. A 71 year old Taiwanese man, Li Zongxiong, covers every square inch of his motor vehicles with writing. He started this hobby back in 1999 and mostly writes moralistic sayings from Buddhist texts. It has caused him some trouble from time to time, as strangers think he is vandalizing other peoples' cars.

The police can't believe anyone would do this to their own vehicle, as this is an action which would generally garner police involvement. Li's family does not want him to practice this hobby and have forbidden him to buy any new vehicles, as they are sure he would write on them without a thought to the value of the car.

His grandson say when he grows up he is going to purchase a bus for his grandpa to gratify his hobby.
6. We all get thirsty and have to have something to drink, but seldom do we think about the container that holds the quenching liquid. Well this man does. His hobby is collecting bottles, over 10,000 to date. What kind of bottles does he collect? Don't laugh, this is nothing to moo about.

Answer: Milk Bottles

Paul Luke from Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, UK has been collecting bottles since 1987. He was just nine years old and earing some money as a milkman's mate. His collection has gotten so large that he has been forced to build a small museum to hold them all.

Some of the bottles are the only ones left in existence. his bottles are rare and it is hard to place a monetary value on them. He collects other types of "milk" memorabilia such as uniforms, badges, cap, milk floats and churns. According to the World Record Academy, in 2011 Paul holds the world record for largest collection of milk bottles.

He continues to add to his collection every chance he gets and loves doing it.
7. A youngster by the name of Austin Siok has picked up the hobby of mimicking an animal's vocals! That's right, he entered the contest at Racine County Fair and won. What "udderly" amazing animal was he impersonating?

Answer: Cow

Austin Siok has been mooing like a cow since kindergarden and his win at the Racine County Fair propelled him to the Wisconsin State Fair to compete in the Mooing Contest. Anyone over the age of five can enter and the stakes for a first place win is 1,000.00 dollars, a cow print jacket, the coveted golden cow bell and a year's supply of sub sandwiches from Cousin Subs (the contest sponsors). 10 year old Austin Siok won the State Fair contest as well. Way to go Austin.
8. This next hobby seems a bid morbid for some people, yet others are truly fascinated by it. Grave stone rubbings, photography, art and history are just a few ways to enjoy the somber places reserved for the dead. What is this hobby called?

Answer: Taphophilia

For thousands of years people have visited grave sites and shrines. Sacred places to honor our great leaders, our beloved and our lost. Some use the term pilgrimage to describe one of these journeys but that word leans more toward reverence for the deceased and has religious tones. Taphophilia or tombstone tourism is also about honoring the dead, but includes an appreciation for the art of grave stones, the history, and culture.

This hobby can be achieved through a variety of outlets such as photography or gravestone rubbings.

Some collect epitaphs and still others seek out stories about famous people who have passed. This hobby can be incorporated with another hobby called genealogy, thereby serving two passions at once: searching cemeteries, but through a particular family line.
9. This next guy's hobby goes a bit further than just hanging around cemeteries. His passion is to pretend to be dead. They call him "The Dead Body Guy" and he dreams of being an actor. His web site has had over 32 million hits. What is this man's gentle name?

Answer: Chuck Lamb

Chuck is 47 year old living in Ohio working as a programmer. He always dreamed of being an actor and with his wife's help set about trying to achieve the dream. Chuck Lamb sets up various death scenes, gets into costume and make up and has his wife take photos and shoot video footage of it.

Afterwards he posts them on his website, which has been dubbed a "Global Phenomenon" by the Associated Press. The web site garnered a lot of attention and as a result he has been featured on over 400 radio stations and 200 TV stations.
10. The growing number of people in China have adopted a new hobby. Fancy art work done on the living. Changing the looks of one type of being to resemble another completely different species. Do you know what hobby this is?

Answer: Competitive Dog Grooming

Dogs get more then a shampoo and nail trim in this hobby. They get their hair styled, trimmed, and dyed in multiple colors so that when the grooming is done dogs can look like tigers, pigs, or zebras, anything but a dog. Between the years 1999 and 2008 this odd trend grew to the point that expenditures towards pet grooming increased 500 percent. Though the people were enjoying this new fad, it's not clear if the pets were.
