Although no one knows when jellybeans were invented, they are believed to be made with the the sugary outer coating of a "Jordan Almond" and the sweet jelly of "Turkish Delight". A process called panning was developed in France during the 17th century and was thought to be used to make the first jellybeans. Panning is a process of applying a very thin coat of sugary syrup on top of the other hence jelly beans were created using this method.

In the movie "The Chronicles of Narnia", the White Witch used the candy, Turkish delight, to bribe Edmund into bringing his siblings to her.
