Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is the ruler of the Third Empire on the eve of the rebellion?

Answer: Strephon

Strephon is the ruler of the Empire whose death sparks the rebellion. What will his death bring to the Empire?
2. Who killed the Emperor?

Answer: Arch Duke Dulinor

The Arch Duke Dulinor felt that the Empire was stagnating under the current regime and felt that he could bring a new sense of purpose to the worlds of the Empire

Margaret and Lucan have their own agendas in the rebellion but had nothing to do with the death of the Emperor.

A gardener had no part in this assassination.
3. Does the assassin have a cause for his actions under Imperial Law?

Answer: Yes

Under Imperial law, the assassin has to kill the ruler by their own hand (and deal with any heirs) and have enough time to sit on the Iridium Throne long enough to proclaim themselves the new ruler.
4. Who was the Emperor's heir?

Answer: Grand Princess Ciencia Iphengenia

The Grand Princess Ciencia Iphegenia was the heir presumptive. She died soon after her father.

The princes Varian and Lucan were twins though Varian, as eldest, would have been expected to become the next ruler while the Duchess Margaret had no direct claim on the Throne.
5. What are the three main human polities at the time of the Rebellion?

Answer: The Third Empire, The Zhodani Consulate and the Solomani Confederation

The Third Imperium is the largest human political grouping in known space. The Solomani claims Terra as its home world, at the time of the Rebellion under the control of the Empire. The Zhodani are focused on the development of the mental powers at the centre of the Consulate rather than becoming involved in the mess of Imperial politics.
6. The vargr are a non-human species. What is the nearest equivalent Terran species to the vargr?

Answer: Dogs

It is thought that a race known only as the Ancients created the vargr ancestors from Terran dogs several hundred millennia ago.
7. What happened in the Corridor Sector in the early days of the Rebellion?

Answer: Withdrawal of Corridor Fleet

Although it took a while, the withdrawal of Corridor Fleet eventually led to incursions of increasingly larger vargr pirate fleets into the Sector leading to social and economic collapse.
8. Why did the Aslan want (nearly) empty planets?

Answer: Genetic imperatives mean that the Aslans require a lot of room.

The Aslans look similar to bipedal Terran lions and like lions, the requirement for large territories is built into the Aslan males. Aslan females are more pragmatic and want to see an economic return from their conquests.
9. What is the Ziru Sirka?

Answer: The re-established Vilani Grand Empire of Stars

The Ziru Sirka is the name of the original Vilani Empire - the original Human Empire, otherwise known as the First Empire after its subjugation by the Terrans. The surviving Vilani megacorporations have taken the opportunity to re-establish the old Empire.
10. What was Prince Lucan's claim to the Imperial Throne?

Answer: He was the eldest surviving relative of the late Emperor.

Lucan had an older brother but by the time the Imperial Guard though to secure their quarters, the older twin had died under murky circumstances leaving Lucan as the sole legitimate heir.
11. How good was Countess Margaret's claim to the Throne?

Answer: Subordinate to Lucan's claim so long as he was still sat on the Throne

Margaret is not a great believer in military actions, instead keeping most of her attention on maintaining trade and an island of stability in a galaxy not-so-slowly falling to chaos.
12. What do the Brothers of Varion want as a result of the Rebellion?

Answer: Dulinor and Lucan to face trials for their actions

A faction supporting a dead Prince doesn't seem to have much chance of making an impact, but there are plenty of people who believe both Dulinor and Lucan have acted without honour in plunging the Empire into war and they are rallying to the name of the dead Prince in an attempt to see honour done.
13. Strephon is a contendor for the Throne. Not a faction fighting under the name of the dead Emperor but an actual physical person claiming to be the supposedly dead Emperor. How can he justify his claim?

Answer: Strephon admits to using an impersonator at Court functions. It was the impersonator who died.

Is this the real Strephon? Only he can know for sure, but if they could but know, the vast majority of Imperial citizens would declare for the one surely legitimate Emperor.
14. Does the Arch Duke of Antares have a blood claim to the Throne of Man?

Answer: No

By blood, none, but with a choice between a fratricide or a regicide, he reckoned that his claim was as good as any.

The Arch Duke of Antares was Arch Duke Bzrk, a Vargr and he reluctantly realised that however good his claim may be socially no human would be willing to see a Vargr as Emperor. He declared independence from the Empire.
15. Who won the Rebellion?

Answer: No one

After several years of fighting, the various factions maintained control of their heartworlds but have failed to gain occupy significant territories outside these regions, letting the rest of the Empire fall into lawlessness and chaos.
