Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song would you find in "Cats"?

Answer: Invitation To The Jellicle Ball

This is sung near the beginning of the show where the cats are explaining about the Jellicle ball:

"Jellicle Cats meet once a year
At the Jellicle Ball where we all rejoice
And the Jellicle Leader will soon appear
And make what is known as the Jellicle Choice"

"If Not For Me For Her" is from "The Woman In White". Marion sings it in the second act when she is trying to get Walter to help her find Anne.

"I Was Robbed" is from "Starlight Express". It is sung after the Uphill Final when Rusty realises he lost because C.B. kept his brakes on.

"It's Not The End Of The World" is from "Tell Me On A Sunday (2003)". It is actually sang three times during the show:

"It's Not The End Of The World (If I Leave Him.)"
"It's Not The End Of The World (If He's Younger.)"
"It's Not The End Of The World (If He's Married.)"
2. The twelve tribes of Israel would be associated with which musical?

Answer: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Joseph's father, Jacob, is also known as Israel.

He had twelve sons and each is an ancestor of the tribes of Israel - every tribe is named after one of his sons.

Each was given a separate territory except for the Levites who were set apart to serve in the temple.

"Jacob was the founder of a whole new nation
Thanks to the number of children he had
He was also known as Israel, but most of the time
His sons and his wives used to call him dad."

"Reuben was the eldest of the children of Israel
With Simeon and Levi next in line
Napthali and Isaachar with Asher and Dan
Zebulun and Gad took the total to nine
Jacob, Jacob and sons
Benjamin and Judah which leaves only one
Jacob, Jacob and sons,
Joseph - Jacob's favourite son."
3. Who leaves to join the IRA at the end of "The Beautiful Game"?

Answer: John

John leaves Ireland for England and the IRA after being released from prison and killing Thomas.

Del is the Protestant boy.

Ginger is killed in Act One.

Sean is John's son and only ten at the end of the musical.
4. Which of these songs is from "The Phantom Of The Opera"?

Answer: I Remember/Stranger Than You Dreamt It

This is the morning after the first time the Phantom has taken Christine down into his lair.

She wakes and sings "I Remember" which segues into the Phantom singing "Stranger Than You Dreamt It" after she removes his mask.

"I Risk My Neck To Save The Bacon" is another moment of sheer farce in "By Jeeves".

Joe Gillis sings "I Guess It Was 5AM" in the opening scene in "Sunset Boulevard".

"I Hope You Like It Here" is sung by Marion and Mr Fairlie to Walter when he first arrives to take up his post in "The Woman In White."
5. In which show would you visit an Insane Asylum?

Answer: The Woman In White

Walter and Marion visit the Insane asylum in Act Two to find Anne Catherick, knowing that her secret could shed some light on why Laura died.

Imagine their surprise when they find Laura in a catatonic state instead and realise it must have been Anne they buried.
6. Which two characters sing "I'd Be Surprisingly Good For You"?

Answer: Eva Duarte and Juan Peron

Eva and Peron sing this, on the night they meet, after the Charity Concert.

"EVA:
I'm not talking of a hurried night
A frantic tumble then a shy goodbye
Creeping home before it gets too light
That's not the reason that I caught your eye
Which has to imply
I'd be good for you
I'd be surprisingly good for you.
PERON:
Please go on--you enthrall me!
I can understand you perfectly
And I like what I hear, what I see, and knowing me
I would be good for you too."
7. Which of these songs is NOT from "Whistle Down The Wind"?

Answer: I'd Rather Die On My Feet Than Live On My Knees

Thomas sings this in "The Beautiful Game" when he's trying to explain to John
what he believes in.

"I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees.
I won't surrender!
Because I am my country and my country is me.
I'll defend her!"
8. In which show would you meet an Irish philanthropist?

Answer: The Likes Of Us

"The Likes Of Us" is based on the life of Thomas John Barnardo (1845 - 1905), an Irish philanthropist, who founded homes for the poor and destitute.

His work still continues today with a charity called "Barnado's".
9. Which character sings "I Am The Starlight?"

Answer: Rusty

This is Rusty's big revelation - after spending the musical searching for the 'Starlight Express', a mystical dream train that he doesn't know is real or not, - he finally realises and understands that HE is the Starlight Express.

"Only you have the power within you
Just believe in yourself, the sea will part before you
Stop the rain, turn the tide
If only you used the power within you
Needn't beg the world to turn around and help you
If you draw on what you have within you
Somewhere deep inside."
10. "I don't know how to love him" is from which musical?

Answer: Jesus Christ Superstar

Mary Magdalene sings this song about her feelings for Jesus. It was one of the two big hits from the original 1970 album recoding (the other being "Superstar").

Both Yvonne Elliman , the original singer, and Helen Reddy had hits with it in the US charts in 1971.

"I don't know how to take this
I don't see why he moves me
He's a man
He's just a man
And I've had so many
Men before
In very many ways
He's just one more
Should I bring him down
Should I scream and shout
Should I speak of love
Let my feelings out?
I never thought I'd come to this
What's it all about?"
