The indirect object can be found by asking the question "Who received the action of the verb?" "Jim" answers "To whom did she give the apple?" so "Jim" is the indirect object.
11. Edwin gave the gift to Jacques. Which word would be the direct object?

Answer: gift

"Edwin" is a proper noun which is the subject of the sentence. "Gave" is the verb. "Jacques" received the object of the action from Edwin so "Jacques" is the indirect object. What he received was a "gift", making "gift" the direct object.
12. Jennifer is a girl. What word is the predicate nominative?

Answer: girl

The predicate nominative comes after the linking verb and is another word for the subject. That is "girl" is a noun and "Jennifer" is a noun and they refer to the same person. So the noun "girl" is acting as an adjective to describe "Jennifer".

Answer: big

"Big" describes the dog and follows the linking verb "was" making "big" the predicate adjective.
