'Joseph ...' is not the only Andrew Lloyd Webber musical to be based on a biblical story. 'Jesus Christ Superstar' tells of the days leading up to and including the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

'Gypsy' is based on the story of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee. Ethel Merman originally played the leading role of Mama Rose on Broadway. However, Rosalind Russell portrayed Mama Rose in the movie version.
