Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Me and My Girl" is about Bill Snibson, a lower-class man from Lambeth who learns that he is of noble lineage and has inherited a fortune. What is the name of his new home?

Answer: Hareford Hall

When his father dies he inherits Hareford Hall and the title of Earl of Hareford. Bill's boorish yet benign manner confounds many of the other characters in the show. Eventually Bill becomes refined enough to claim his title.
2. Maria, the Duchess of Dene, and Sir John Tremayne are supposed to determine if Bill is fit to rule. What is their relationship?

Answer: They are childhood sweethearts

All is well that ends well; Sir John and Maria become husband and wife at the end of the show. Maria has gained a reputation as a stern old woman, but Sir John brings out the sweetness in her.
3. Gerald Bolingbroke and Lady Jacquie are another romantic couple in the show. What is one of Jacquie's goal throughout most of the show?

Answer: To get Bill's money

She attempts to seduce Bill in the musical number "You Would If You Could". At the end of the show she ends up with Gerald, a whiny and somewhat immature nobleman who spends all of his money at the races.
4. Bill has a girlfriend who is at first rejected by the other inhabitants at Hareford Hall. What is her name?

Answer: Sally Smith

Sally gets rid of her Cockney accent thanks to a few quick language lessons from a professor who has befriended one of Sir John's old military acquaintances. (It is implied to be Henry Higgins of "My Fair Lady".)
5. The Hareford family is assisted by the comic relief, the lawyer Parchester. What is his first name?

Answer: Herbert

Parchester sings the musical number "The Family Solicitor". He reveals his first name in the middle of Act 2, in the company of a drunk Bill and an equally inebriated Sir John.
6. Which one of these songs is NOT sung by Bill?

Answer: Take It On The Chin

"Take It On The Chin" is sung by Sally Smith after she and Bill have an argument. His newfound nobility and subsequent duties have put a strain on their relationship, but all is well by the end of the show.
7. Which one of these performers was given a Tony award for his/her work?

Answer: Robert Lindsay

Robert Lindsay, who played Bill, beat out Colm Wilkinson for the Best Actor in a Musical Tony. Timothy Jerome and George S. Irving were nominated, while Justine Johnston was not nominated for an award.
8. Maria, the Duchess of Dene, sings "The Song of Hareford" to Bill in Act 2. What strange thing happens during this song?

Answer: Portraits of Bill's ancestors come to life

The ancestors even sing and dance in the number, but only Bill can see them! The number of ancestors can be anywhere from four to twelve.
9. Parchester's song, "The Family Solicitor", has how many reprises?

Answer: Two

"The Family Solicitor" is sung early on in Act One. A reprise occurs later on in Act One, and another reprise happens in the middle of Act Two. Sadly, Parchester is interrupted both times by Maria, The Duchess.
10. Towards the end of Act One, at the ball, whom does Lady Worthington-Worthington mistake for Bill?

Answer: Parchester

This hilarious scene takes place shortly before the rousing Act One closing song, "The Lambeth Walk". It's sung by Bill, Sally, and the rest of the cast.
