Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What health related incident happened to the unstable furniture manufacturer?

Answer: He went off his rocker

The pun here lies in a slang term for the unfortunate condition of going insane (hopefully only temporarily) - that of going off one's rocker. A rocker is also an abbreviated term for a rocking chair, a piece of furniture made by furniture manufacturers. If one rocks too hard in those diabolical inventions, one gets tossed right out of it. In short, you've gone off your rocker.
2. What did the physiotherapist do when she got out of bed every morning?

Answer: Stretched

Physiotherapist are trained healthcare professionals who examine, diagnose, and work out a series of exercises and stretches to treat all kinds of physical injuries or distorted disease-related limbs such as those caused by poliomyelitis. Their work of course is far more detailed than that, but that's a general description of the job. Though the physiotherapist above undoubtedly did all the other choices given for this question, the pun is in the stretches carried out or supervised in his/her day's work, and, what most of us do when waking up from a sleep, having a good old stretch to help get the blood flowing through our veins again.
3. The overpriced electrician was known for what?

Answer: Excessive charges

An electrician is a specialised tradesperson who works in all fields related to the installation of, the repair of, and the maintenance of all components of electricity driven infrastructure or equipment. An electric charge is related to the field of electricity.

The pun rests in an electricity charge within the supply of the electricity - and the fee, or charge, included on his bill for services rendered.
4. What was the chef's complaint about the weather?

Answer: It was roasting

Chefs are very highly trained professional cooks who work in all areas of food production and presentation of the cuisine for which they have been especially trained. Perhaps they may lower their high standards every now and then to give a customer a good old common meal of roast beef and vegetables. Yum! Much tastier than frog's legs or snails.

The pun rests in the "roast" meal, and a term we often use in very hot weather, such as "It's roasting today". And it is.
5. What did the landscape gardener always have with his lunch?

Answer: A prune

The work of those professionals known as landscape gardeners or architects is immensely varied. Apart from the physical side of things involving the supply, planting and maintenance of plants, landscape gardening also involves training and qualifications in horticulture, the ecology of areas in which they work, design, plant knowledge and diseases and just about anything else you may care to name.

But the rewards are immense - creating beautiful living works of art. Part of the physical side of their work is that necessary pruning of plants.

The pun rests in that, and in the dried plum fruits which are known as prunes. Quite healthy for you, but not more than one at a time, as that will produce rather unfortunate side effects.
6. What happened to the teacher who was feeling ill?

Answer: She went as white as chalk

Many teachers today still avail themselves of the good old blackboard and chalk when teaching students. Chalk is comprised of soft, white limestone and when used to write upon a blackboard, it leaves a residue on the surface of the board. The pun rests in that chalk and the fact that, when people are feeling nauseous, they tend to go very pale.

This is often described as looking as white as chalk.
7. The fireman had what coloured hair?

Answer: Flaming red

Firemen or fire fighters are trained in the skill of dealing with and trying to rescue people from various fires that threaten lives and property. These remarkable people often put their own lives at risk in doing so. The pun is in the red flames associated with a fire, and with redheads whose brightly coloured locks are often described as flaming red.
8. How did the accountant's speech go?

Answer: He summed everything up

Accountants are trained professionals who deal with the financial dealings of any business or association. In addition to balancing the books in regular financial reports for the company for which they work, they can advise on other figure related fields related to investments, banking and taxation.

The pun is their figure related activities, and in the mathematical skill of summing up a row of figures.
9. Why did the chauffeur's wife divorce him?

Answer: He drove her mad

Chauffeurs are people hired to drive various forms of luxury passenger vehicles to take their (usually wealthy or important) clients from one destination to another. Many wear uniforms to just give that extra air of opulence to their work, or to identify the company for which they work.

The pun is in that driving work, and, as is the case in the occasional argument between couples, the exasperated cry of "You're driving me mad!"
10. Now recovering in hospital, what happened to the policeman?

Answer: His heart arrested

Police officers, those dependable members of the law enforcing agencies of most countries, are professionals hired to apprehend criminals, work at crime prevention, assure and assist the public in times of emergency and generally keep the peace and protect citizens twenty-four hours a day.

The pun is in part of that work in "arresting" those who break the law, and a heart attack, known as a cardiac arrest, in which the poor old heart stops beating completely. Fortunately, in many cases, it can be shocked back into its normal rhythm once again.
