Answer: The Louvre, Paris

Painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, the Mona Lisa is arguably the most famous painting in the world. Her home has been Paris, France since the 1500s, and she was originally placed in the Louvre following the French Revolution.

Answer: Van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh painted the series "The Sunflowers" in 1887/88. Van Gogh was born in 1853 and committed suicide in 1890. In December 1888, frustrated and suffering from depression, he cut off the lower part of his left ear.

Answer: Michelangelo

This is located in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in Vatican City. The chapel is famous for its architecture and its decoration. At the request of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo painted 12,000 square feet (1,100 square meters) of the chapel ceiling between 1508 and 1512.

Other artists, including Botticelli, Raphael and Bernini, contributed to the overall effect, but it is generally accepted that this is Michelangelo's finest work.

Answer: Pablo Picasso

The Blue Period lasted for three years between 1901 and 1904. A very dark and somber phase of Picasso's life, all of his work from that time consisted of paintings in shades of blue and blue/green. By contrast, the Rose Period (1904-1906) is a more cheery style of work, using orange and pink colours.

The original marble statue now stands within the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence. A replica has been placed at the Palazzo della Signoria, the location at which the real statue was originally sited, upon its completion in 1504.

John Constable was born in East Bergholt, a village in Suffolk, in 1776. Constable started his artistic career by sketching the Suffolk countryside and it was this locale that provided the subject matter for, arguably, his most famous paintings.

Peter Paul Rubens painted during the seventeenth century. His Baroque style highlighted movement, colour and sensuality. He is famous for his portraits and landscapes as well as for his nude paintings of large ladies.

Gilliam was the only member of Monty Python who was not a "true Brit". He was born in the USA but became a British citizen in 1968.

Answer: The Turner Prize

The Turner Prize is an award that was set up in 1984 to recognise new developments in contemporary art. The prize is given each year to a British artist, aged under fifty, for an outstanding exhibition of their work in the previous twelve months.

"The Thinker" is a bronze and marble sculpture now located in the Musée Rodin in Paris. It represents a man in deep thought. It is believed that Rodin meant to depict Dante pondering his famous poem in front of the Gates of Hell. The exhibit was first displayed in 1904.
