Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Eponine's surname?

Answer: Thénardier

Eponine's surname is Thénardier. She is the daughter of the horrible money-grabbing, corpse-robbing former innkeepers, the Thénardiers!
2. The song "Come to Me", sung by both Fantine and Valjean at Fantine's bedside, is sung to the same tune as which other song?

Answer: On My Own

"On My Own" is the correct answer. Fantine is singing about her eight-year-old child, Cosette, who is living with the Thénardiers at their inn.
3. In "Master of the House" Thénardier is described as being a servant to the who?

Answer: Poor

Thénardier is described as being a "servant to the poor" as well as a "butler to the great". His wife, however, disagrees: she thinks that he's "hypocrite and toady and inebriate"!
4. Which four people sing "In My Life"?

Answer: Cosette, Marius, Jean Valjean, Eponine

"In My Life" is the song in which Marius arrives at Cosette's house through Eponine's help. He sings about Cosette and finally getting to meet her whilst Eponine mourns the loss of her sweetheart. Cosette contemplates her life so far and wonders if Marius is even real. Jean Valjean realizes at last that Cosette is growing up and that she wants to know about her past.

However, he still refuses to tell her for fear of frightening or hurting her. So sweet!
5. What is the name of the small street urchin who dies collecting ammunition for the barricade?

Answer: Gavroche

Grantaire and Joly are students and Montparnasse is a member of Thénardier's gang. Gavroche is the street urchin who dies fatally whilst collecting ammunition. He is shot at three times as he sings his "Little People" song and never manages to sing the final word. Such a shame!
6. After Javert realizes that the gentleman he has just saved from Thénardier's gang is Jean Valjean, he sings which famous song?

Answer: Stars

Javert sings the song "Stars". In this song he swears to catch Jean Valjean no matter what!
7. What is Eponine's last word before her death?

Answer: Flowers

Eponine's last word before her death is "flowers". Similar to Gavroche, she fails to sing the last word of the song which should be "grow". She is shot at as she re-enters the barricade and she dies tragically in Marius' arms. Together they sing "A Little Fall of Rain". Marius promises to protect and stay with Eponine until she eventually dies and afterwards he kisses her forehead.

In some versions, Eponine uses the last of her strength to kiss Marius. In others she attempts to kiss him but dies before she can.

In some no kiss is mentioned.
8. How does Javert die?

Answer: He jumps off a bridge

Javert jumps off a bridge into the River Seine. He is distraught at the idea of being in debt of Jean Valjean after he set Javert free from the barricade but still he needs to arrest him for justice to be done. In the end he decides to take the easy route out by "escaping from the world of Jean Valjean" - he commits suicide!
9. Who is the leader of the ABC in which all the rebel students join?

Answer: Enjolras

Enjolras is the leader of the ABC. He believes only in his cause and tells Marius, "Our tiny lives do not matter". Unfortunately, he is killed at the barricade along with all the other students.
10. In the final song of the musical, "The Epilogue", the spirits of Fantine and Eponine appear to take Jean Valjean to Heaven. Their first line together is "Take my hand, and lead me to" what?

Answer: Salvation

Salvation is the correct answer. Jean Valjean then joins Fantine and Eponine and goes to Heaven with them.
